Cars Derailed On Rock Island Near Sparland
Seven cars of a north bound Rock Island freight train derailed about 3 am near Sparland causing track and roadbed damage. A coal car slid down the embankment while two derricks lifted wreckage. Trains were rerouted via Santa Fe and service expected to resume shortly.

Memorial services were held for John Marshall Lowrie 66 of Galesburg at his home. He died Tuesday March 2 at St Luke's hospital Chicago after four months as a patient. Cremation followed and burial planned in Galesburg. He was a landholder in Magnolia area and served as director of First-Galesburg National Bank and Trust and Intra-State Telephone company.
