A longtime grocer, D Wood, hurt in a fall at a factory on Oct 25 suffers heart attacks linked to the injury. He fought insurance and state agencies for compensation while coping with medical bills, reduced work capacity, and a damaged livelihood. Neighbors plan to help as a settlement looms.
Residents and district officials invited interested parties to submit proposals for a 20 acre tract near Mary Steele, with an option held on the property. Bids were to consider a $5,000 cash payment and potential development around the planned school building, with a presentation on Tuesday March 28.
Lenten services of the Christian Methodist and Presbyterian churches are well attended. Next Sunday March 12 at 7 30 p m the Presbyterian church will host with Mr John Howard of the Christian church delivering the sermon. All professing Christians urged to attend both morning worship and Sunday evening services for spiritual renewal.
Henry city council opened talks on purchasing a new fire truck to replace a 25 year old Peter Purtsch model. Firemen have raised about 5000 dollars, with a bingo fundraiser planned. a Sevgrave truck at about 16000 dollars may be chosen with city funds, tax levies, and existing fire funds to cover the rest.
Clifford Haws of Magnolia offered to give stove and furnace wood from his farm to all in need. An expert woodsman was hired to cut wood, and recipients helped with hauling and cleanup. Haws even assisted by delivering wood and helping place it in fires, relieving the fuel crisis and earning sincere appreciation.
Funeral services were held at Green Funeral Home for Mrs. Guy Forrest 83 who died March 1 after a brief illness. The Rev E L Gibson officiated with Mrs. Charles Bourdette at the organ. Interment followed in Henry City Cemetery. Survived by two sons Benjamin H Forrest and Robert E Forrest, two grandsons William E and James II, two great grandchildren, a daughter Gertrude Inez deceased, and many friends. Mrs Forrest was a longtime Eastern Star member.
The Forrest families extend heartfelt gratitude to friends neighbors and relatives for the sympathy and assistance they received during their bereavement.
Henry plans a big Fourth of July show featuring Homer Parker of Morris known as Slingshot Parker. Parker, a Public Service Company line patrolman, has gained national notice for accurate shots at game and targets. His appearance July 1 is billed as a highlight of the Henry celebration.
St Marys Church schedules parish wide food sale and bazaar for Saturday March 18 at Brennan's Store. Parish women will furnish food and fancy work items. valuable prizes to be awarded. Mrs Ben Schmitt chairs with Mrs John Ries as co chair.
Mrs Walter Baldwin of Henry chosen as crew leader for Marshall county census takers. She will report March 9 at Peoria office for初 training and lead 15 to 20 enumerators. Sudow cites high grades in exam interview and background as basis for selection. The 17th decennial census begins April 1, 1950.
Putnam County contributed 1250 this year to the March of Dimes drive to curb infantile paralysis. Granville township gave 625 Magnolia 311.01 Hennepin 205.85 Senachwine 108.04. Mrs. Glenn Dunbar of Mc Nabb chaired the 1950 campaign and Mrs. Olga Sutton of Granville led the county chapter. A countywide thank you was issued for county and township support.
Frank Grampp & Sons Princeton produce firm filed bankruptcy schedules in Peoria showing debts of 176063 28 and assets of 57054 72. Partners Frank Grampp and son Gilbert, stepson Harold Churchill of Tiskilwa, and daughter Helen Moline of Minonk are listed. Frank Grampp held a 30000 mortgage to LaSalle National Bank. Gilbert held a 25000 mortgage to Eureka Building and Loan of LaSalle.

The Henry Methodist W S C S plans a food and bake sale this Saturday March 11 at the Henry Plumbing and Heating building. Items are donated and cash gifts are welcome. Mrs William Koehler leads the sale committee.
Edward F E Haugens of Toluca announces his candidacy for state representative from the 16th senatorial district in the April primary. A Toluca native, veteran, lawyer, and public administrator, he lists extensive military honors and local leadership roles including Toluca city attorney and Marshall county public administrator.
Farmers will get the 1950 census of agriculture questionnaire by mail a week or 10 days before the April census. The forms allow farmers to consult records and prepare information for farm production. Census takers will collect completed forms in April during the population and housing census.
Mrs Richard Finfgeld program chairman announces the March P T A meeting at the high school auditorium March 16 with Rev Edward L Gibson pastor of Henry Presbyterian Church as guest speaker. Theme is We Believe in the Community Mr Gibson will speak on this thought. Mrs Edwin Wiedman music chairman presents local youth in musical numbers. A regular business meeting precedes the program and tea will be served by second and third grade mothers.
A flash fire at the Halsey Monier farm destroyed a large hog house and five adjacent smaller hog houses, killing 32 sows and over 200 newly farrowed pigs. Fire crews from Lacon Chillicothe and neighbors aided in saving other buildings, with the blaze blamed on an electric heater. no human lives were lost.
Polio fund drive chairwoman Mrs. William Koehler extends the appeal for two more weeks beyond March 1 with a goal to close by March 15. She notes a complete letter record and offers credit if envelopes are lost but contributors send name and amount. Several organizations gave ten dollar gifts. individuals have given but totals lag behind prior years.
Mra Edwin Wiedman, county program chairman, schedules a March 18 planning committee meeting in the Farm Bureau building to summarize February Home Bureau unit discussions and outline problems and phases for April unit meetings. Members include Mrs Louis McNabb Mrs Curley Boyle Mrs C C Gibba and Mrs Oscar Fiedler.
Mrs. Peter Frecchio of Spring Valley sold the Spring Valley Fruit Company last week to three employees John Tieman Guilde Saber Bergagna. She had run the business since 1944 after her husband drowned in Lake Senachwine during duck hunting season. The firm supplied wholesale fruit and vegetables to MP counties and plans a vacation for the owner.
At a Wednesday meeting after services St Marys Parish announced an Easter dance to be held Tuesday April 11 at Henry School gym sponsored by church organizations. The Rosary Society Holy Name Society and the C Y O will cooperate on event details.
After a Sparland Henry district prelim band contest Tuesday night Leland Stamm judged grade and high school groups. Henry tied for first in grade school with Rutland and Sparland plus Senachwine took second. Henry and Sparland earned district entry with near perfect scores and praise for drum sections.
Rev. Dale Pitcher reported to the Henry Rotary Club on impressions from a Washington conference attended by 61 Illinois Methodist ministers. He described global shifts, nationalism, and the struggle against communism, faulting U.S. foreign policy and noting a reduced emphasis on the United Nations.
Henry Legion commander James Tindall announced the post signed a contract with Gem City Shows Inc of Quincy NL to bring carnival acts for the Henry Fourth of July celebration. He urged all Legion members to attend the post monthly meeting on Wednesday night March 15.
The American Legion hosts its annual birthday party Thursday March 16 at 8 p.m. with a 6 30 p.m. pot-luck supper. Legionnaires and wives, Legion auxiliary members and husbands invited. Attendees bring a covered dish and own table service. A birthday cake and entertainment follow.
A Henry Business Men’s association committee told the Henry-Senachwine high school board it has not received any definite reply on the availability or price of an alternate school site at the northwest edge of Henry opposite Ivan Barry’s farm. The California owner, with whom the group has been corresponding, holds the property. Committee members include Rank Forbes, chairman, Dale Van DeVeer, and Lee Titcomb.
Harold Churchill of Tiskilwa is adjudicated bankrupt in a patent petition against Frank Grampp and Sons of Princeton. He must file assets and liabilities within 10 days as Roy Wheeling and receiver Hobart Gunning inventory property in Peoria backed proceedings.
