Lostant Man Struck by Auto Seriously Hurt Near Oglesby
L L Dugan 58 of Lostant, highway maintenance worker and Democratic precinct committeeman, is in St Marys hospital with a compound fracture of the right leg a severe cut near the left eye and other injuries after an auto struck him and dragged him 75 feet near Routes 2 and 7 A north of Oglesby. The driver fled. Mrs Bradshaw who dragged him 75 feet in her car attempted to avoid the crash. Patroller Joseph Gromann led the search for the unidentified driver as Dugan and partner Charles Hartenbower worked north and south of the dry bridge. Dugan faces no charges against Mrs Bradshaw who was not entirely at fault.

May out pay of rural postmen
Postmaster General Farley urged a House Post Office committee to slash rural carrier salaries to save over 11 million dollars annually. He argued reduced appropriations and a day a month furlough should precede route consolidation plans that would affect about 9,000 carriers. The Dockweiler bill proposes reducing basic pay from 1800 for 24 mile routes to 1800 for 30 mile routes six days a week, with 20 dollars per mile for longer routes.

Death of Bureau boy Joseph Steenrod after hunting accident
Joseph Steenrod 16, a Bureau resident and son of Charles and Nora Steenrod, died at 3 15 a m in Princeton hospital after a second amputation following a hunting accident in November. He was born September 17 1917 in Bureau and survived by his parents a brother Paul a sister Ruth and grandmother Mrs Marion Switzer. Two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

Former Marshall Co School Chief Edgar Nichols Dead at Lacon
Edgar Nichols former Wenona and Touluca school superintendent and one term Marshall County school head died at his Lacon home Friday after years of ill health. Born May 25 1863 in Kingston Illinois he married Alice Wilson in 1889 who died in 1983. He worked as secretary of the Lacon Building and Loan and in real estate. Survived by ten sons Floris Lacon and Lealie Chicago and two grandchildren. Funeral at 2 30 p m Sunday at his Lacon home with Rev Morgan conducting burial in Lacon Cemetery.

Fire Destroys Barn on South Whitefield Farm
A large barn on the Wunder homestead tenanted by Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Bland and family was totally destroyed by fire. The house and a hog shed were damaged. no livestock were trapped. The blaze, likely from husks after shelling, prompted a bucket brigade to douse flames amid landmark structures in South Whitefield township.
