Taxpayers in Henry township may pay slightly less this year as county figures show most rates easing. State taxes rise to 39 cents from 30. county rate stays 25. county highway drops to 15. Henry city falls to 97 cents from 1.05. school districts vary with district 20 down to 42 cents while district 35 up to 79 cents. Lacon township sees overall decline with city rate down to 90 cents. district 81 down 9 cents, district 82 up 12. Rates in districts 68 unchanged at 1.06. Bennington township unchanged. Fire destroys Steuben farm home
Mr and Mrs John Stotler of the Garrett farm Steuben township were awakened by burning pine smell early Monday. The fire spread quickly, telephone wires burned preventing calls for help, and the house could not be saved. Mrs Rollen Blackwell alerted neighbors but little could be recovered. Dr E A Garrett and sister Miss Edwar shared possession. arrangements unsettled after Allison Garrett’s death.

Auto License Deadline Pushed for 1930 Plates
Secretary of State William J. Stratton announced March 15 as the deadline to use 1930 automobile license plates. After that date motorists with 1929 plates may be arrested. State automobile investigators, aided by highway police, will enforce compliance statewide and compel purchase of new plates if warnings fail.

Mrs. Ellen Law Duke of Henry Marshall County born November 22 1874 in Henry Illinois died February 26 1930 at St Francis hospital Peoria after a brief illness. She married Walter B Duke in 1914 and is survived by husband daughter Helen Virginia sister Mrs Fon W J Hodge two brothers Fred W Law and Robert D Law. Funeral held at St Johns Episcopal Henry with interment at Milo cemetery.

Warner Dies After Illness at Henry Indiana
Rufus Bliss Warner born June 19 1851 Jefferson county Indiana died March 2 1930 at his home in Henry after a 12 day illness due to a stroke. He moved from Illinois to Stark county a dozen years ago and lived with his wife Hester Ray Warner in Henry. Survived by widow two sons Ray and Lyle two brothers Willis of Ohio Allen of Nabb and two grandsons Gale and Wayne all of Henry. He joined the Christian church at Milo about 25 years ago and was a member of the I O O F since age 28. He was a steadfast neighbor husband and father and will be missed.

Death of Joseph Ziegler ruled carbon monoxide poisoning
Joseph Ziegler died at his Wirth street home and was found in the garage on March 1. An inquest led by Coroner R. L. Eddington returned a verdict of carbon monoxide poisoning. He was a farmer turned retiree, married to Margaret Schwarz, with two sons, Harry and others in Saratoga township. Funeral services were held at St. Marys church with a large attendance and burial at Calvary cemetery.

Fire Destroys Hauber Garage With Two Cars
A Wednesday fire of undetermined origin consumed the late model Hauber garage on the Hauber residence property. The Essex sedan and Ford were destroyed along with tools and contents. insurance covered the building but not the cars. Neighbor Harry Talmadge alerted the owner as firefighters battled rapidly spreading flames.

Daughter of Fred Carrier Dies in Hennepin
Anna Mae Carrier aged 17, daughter of Fred Carrier of this area, died at 6 30 this morning at her mother’s home in Hennepin. Cause listed as heart failure with complications after weeks of poor health. She attended her grandfather Edwin Carrier’s funeral last Thursday. Funeral and interment expected in Hennepin, details not yet authoritative.

Pheasant shipment arrives at Wagner Game Farm
A batch of 400 hen pheasants arrived Friday at the Wagner Game Farm near Henry from Gay Bird-Pheasantries in Berkshire England. The birds traveled in 34 crates with feeding boxes and were shipped from London February 15 arriving after about thirteen days.
