Community clubs prepare for a March 12 meeting with speakers Mrs Earl ra and Val p on Indian life and customs. Della M Tay as soloist and Clara Pride among hosts and attendees from Sparland and nearby towns. weekend weather brings sun then snow and cold.
On the evening of March 17 an Adult Fellowship event was held with Mrs. Frank in attendance. The gathering focused on community fellowship and shared remarks in a neighborhood venue.
The February Chicago Heights Star profiles Mary Rogers Carollo of Varna now teaching third grade at Flossmoor’s Western Avenue school. It notes her dual roles as mother and full time teacher, plus her music teaching on Saturdays and prize-winning hobby in entering contests.
The Bloodmobile visited Mid County high schools in Varna on Feb 21 with 93 donors. Organizers included Mrs Virginia Lane and Miss Emma Schneider, Rus Sievert as custodian, six RNs, and numerous staff from Varna LaCon and Wenona with receptionists and registrars named. The Kinodmobile will return to Henry on March 21 and needs donor appointments.
Several Varna families moved within the town as spring activity returns. Walter and Mrs Schwankoe moved into a new Varna residence from a farm north of town. Donald and Mrs Tyler and children relocated from the First Lutheran parsonage to the late Mrs Jennie Peterson home. The parsonage will be redecorated for the new pastor arriving in late June. William Koch Sr and family returned from Florida. Conran Koch stayed longer then will be driven back by Storen Koch with the Florida trip for the children's health. Virginia Jenkins remains home with bronchitis and was absent from school a week. Elsi Guderian hosted a family dinner with William Hoppe family Walter Guderjan sons Darlene Marilyn Guderjan and Barbara Bruce of Champaign. Oliver Extrem, ill two weeks, improves under care of Maude Hultgren and Anna Extrem. Darlene and Marilyn Guderjan and Barbara Bruced Champaign visited the Guderjan home weekend.
The regular meeting of the Missionary Society of the First Lutheran Church of Varna was held March 1. The group opened with Children of the Heavenly Father, devotionals by Donald Carlson, and a program play about Alaska featuring Leah Walin, Susanne Henry, Vernon Holmstrom, and Carlson. The meeting closed with Beautiful Savior and benediction, followed by a tray lunch served by Donna and Billy Peterson assisted by their mother.
Mr and Mrs Jopl Jenkins purchase from Arthur Schoepke his brick home and Mr and Mrs William Hoppe buy the Jenkins residence. Schoepke will build a new home on his farm, with moving delayed until the new house is finished.
Mr and Mrs Roy Brown and daughters Marilyn and Ronnie Lundgren toured colleges in Indiana over a weekend. They visited Purdue University in Lafayette to see the Minnvis Purdue basketball game and DePauw in Greencastle where they spoke with Sandy Garrett of Lacon. Marilyn and Ronnie, seniors at Mid County High, look forward to college. The trip home was hindered by icy roads.
The Martha circle met Thursday at Miss Ethel Hultgren's home with good attendance. A travelogue by Mrs Warren Lucas from Florida highlighted shells and beach souvenirs. Poetry readings by Mrs Bertha Anderson and Mrs Jalmer Hultgren followed before refreshments. Local families and visitors shared weekend plans and greetings across Varna Henry Moline Joliet Lacon Augustana college Florid a.
The Carlson family of Park Ridge welcomed their fourth daughter born February 20. Parents Mr and Mrs Carlson and their grandparents Mr and Mrs Evar Carlson of Moline were noted. The fragment mentions Marshail Johnson Wiststiel and a hospital visit in Peoria for a gas emergency.
Rev Charles F DeWitte presides at Sunday low Masses at 10 a.m. Saturday high Mass 8 a.m. Grade school pupils follow Saturday Mass. First Friday confessions 6 a.m. Communion at 6:30 a.m. Thursday high Mass 7:30 a.m. Lent devotions Tuesdays 7:30 p.m. followed by choir practice.
Bible class and Sunday school at 9 30 a m with worship at 10 30 a m. Luther League meeting postponed from March 5 to March 12. A long list of local visits dinners and greetings from Granville Magnolia and nearby towns, including Weide families, Knebone family, Zellmer family, and many other residents.
Weekend gatherings and visits fill Hennepin notes with pot lucks card games and social times. Miss Ellen Johnson dined with Lyle and Maud Jenkins. families visited John Brandstatter Ida Clemens and others. Royal Neighbor and Rebekah lodge events announced with Lent sermon and party details.
Rosarians heard about dieselization as a lasting trend with economy and quick startup. Bodse contrasted diesel and steam, noting fuel use, crew efficiency, coal costs, and labor disputes over multi unit operation while Boose traced steam development and wheel arrangements. Visitors included Gerry Scott, Herb Tobler, Joe Allen, William Koch, Clarence Ropp, and Andy Harris.
Sunday evening friends held a pot luck farewell for the Pattarozi family at Royal Neighbor hall. They received several gifts as they move later this week to a farm near Marseilles. American Legion Auxiliary will meet next Tuesday evening March 11 with Mrs Rolland Hamm.
