Marshall County deputy sheriff Mearl Laible died at Methodist Hospital Peoria after a Sunday stroke near Henry. Survived by his parents William and Mrs Laible and brothers Harold Howard and Donald. Funeral set for Saturday at Lacon Methodist Church with Rev Loyal M Thompson officiating.
Henry Township road commissioner Joseph M Hagemann protests dumping tin cans garbage and trash on roads rather than the Henry dumping grounds. Dumping along John Stadel back gulley below Art O Briens place and on the road from Western Avenue to Route 29 harms cattle hogs and taxpayers. The notice warns prosecutions if trash is not moved to proper dumps.

Jack Applen resumes duties at the Green River Ordnance plant near Dixon. He works in the same office as Harry Ziegler of Henry and Judge Fred Dunbar of Princeton. Applen, recently ill, is greatly improved and living in the plant dormitory.
Henry township hosts a Friday Red Cross meeting at Henry State Bank to plan solicitors and tire shortages relief. Dr Norman Thomas speaks March 14 at Henry gym under Methodist Crusade, addressing domestic and international issues with questions invited.
Arrangements completed to keep the Red Cross office open each weekday afternoon from 1 to 4 p m in the Henry State Bank building. Volunteer workers will staff days, with mornings also possible for production work and War Fund drive contributions. Named volunteers cover Monday through Friday afternoons.

Producers Creamery officials met Henry city leaders to discuss plant site on Frone Street and power supply via Public Service Company. Stock sales advanced to 7719.93 dollars at twenty five dollars per share, with a twenty share limit per person and about four thousand dollars sold last week.
Clifford Merdian reports his fox terrier Fritz has been missing for several days. The dog has black ears a black forehead spot and responds to Fritz. A reward is offered for the dog’s return.
Special to the Henry News Republican and Putnam County News report Cadet Henry Pogemiller son of Mr and Mrs C O Pogemiller of Henry is slated to receive silver pilot wings and officer’s bars in mid April at the Army Air Forces Training Command twin engine advanced flying school in Pampa Texas He is an alumnus of Henry Township High School and earlier trained at Tulsa Oklahoma and basic flight training at ton city before joining the Pampa program Also noted is a Navy letter from Sailor Albert Charles Hubbell son of Mr and Mrs W Hibberl of Henry describing Red Cross support to service members and the death of his sister Elsie with sympathy from a Navy chaplain in San Francisco.
Private Norton Brown of Italy service has been awarded the Silver Star. The family in Henry received the medal yesterday, with a bronze star and ribbon, plus pins indicating the honor. Norton Brown Sr. plans to display it at the Newsepublican office for the public.
Second Lt Sam A Fulks writes from Randolph Field San Antonio Texas that he is in a four week basic instruction course listening to lectures. He notes the post is 20 miles from the city with little time to spare amusements like bowling or theater and that he has not seen the sun since arriving in Texas. He signs as Student Instructor Det Army Air Force Central Instruction School Barracks C Randolph Field Texas.
Miss Jacille Klein daughter of Mayor L F Klein of this city accepts a job in the Lacon office of the Public Service Company of Northern Illinois and began her duties Wednesday March. She previously served a year and a half with the Marshall County Rationing board as a price clerk at resignation time.
Mrs. George Burt has improved after a hospital stay at St. Margaret's in Spring Valley and returned home on Wednesday. She is cared for by Mrs. Tillie Henkins at her Henry home.
Vernon Wisconsin will host a Sunday evening lecture by labor leader Ford, who grew up in a miner's cabin and will discuss coal production and the wartime coal strike. A question period follows. free-will offering. Other March programs feature Irene Yonemura and Luther German with future speakers announced.
