The War Department release reports Captain Edward J. Murphy of the Air Corps, then a prisoner of war in Europe, was awarded four Oak Leaf Clusters to the Air Medal. The clusters were presented to his father Leo E. Murphy in Wyoming, Illinois, by Captain John T Foster at Chanute Field. The ceremony included a citation read by Captain P. Werner, Sub Commander of Area G. Camp Elis.

She formerly known as Gertrude Obermiller of Wenona, now living in Los Angeles. He went overseas a few weeks after. Mrs Frankenstein plans to return to Wenona soon.
Seaman Raymond Griffin S 2d is at sea aboard a U S steamship and cannot state his location in a letter. He notes warm weather and that this is his first message in six weeks. He is the son of Mr and Mrs C N Griffin of Varna and thanks well wishers for letters while awaiting Christmas mail and the Henry paper he has not received for eight weeks.
Varna Rotary Club celebrated Rotary's fortieth anniversary on February 20 with Andre Julin leading a candle card ritual. Guests included Fred Garrela Warren Kuster Dale Kanlve Walter Head Ansel Hexter and Dwayne Heath of Lacon. A directors meeting followed the regular session.

Lt. Frederick M. Mead 29 of Peoria born in Henry and raised here receives the second Air Medal cluster for service in the Army Air Corps. His mother Mrs. Fred V. Mead and grandmother Mrs. Gae retta Vogelsang are named. he is married to Barbara of 301 Kelly Avenue. Private Norman Barnes, Verne Mead, and Ben Mead are mentioned as relatives in service with Norman Mead in France and Verne injured at Luzon.
Captain Boyle died in a Burma hospital on February 10 1945 at age 33 after two years overseas. A John Swaney High School and University of Illinois graduate, he began ROTC training and served as reserve officer before being promoted to captain in 1942. He leaves a wife Hazel Marie Jones, daughter Rebecca Ann, his parents Mr and Mrs L F Boyle of McNabb and four siblings.
Sergeant Ernest Russell son of Mr and Mrs Charles Russell of Lacon writes of service with the Fighting Oth division in France. He landed five days after D day and notes hedgerow warfare, tank support, pushing the peninsula toward Barneville and Cherbourg, and a later advance to St Lo where he was wounded and sent to England. He returned to his unit after recovery and was promoted to sergeant as the push into France continued.
Memorial services for Pfc Earl E. Schlosser of Toluca are set for Sunday afternoon March 4 at Toluca Christian Church. The service will be officiated by Dr Thompson and Rev Bruner with the American Legion participating. Schlosser, son of Mr and Mrs WII Schlosser, was killed in action in France February 3. Legionnaires from Henry Post 825 will attend and transport arrangements are coordinated by Commander Carson Cromkriter.
Pfc. John McVicker of Mossville is cited for Philippine liberation ribbon participation in the Philippine campaign. He has served since June 1941 and has been overseas for a year. he previously worked on a Mossville farm. He is son of Mrs. Della MeVicker of Peoria and John D. MeVicker of Kewanee, with grandmother Mrs. Louisa MeeVicker of Henry.
Henry Township aims for a $1 900 Red Cross quota up from $1 400 last year. D. K Farr chairs the campaign with Mrs Gore nor H Downey assisting. Arthur O Brien and Joseph Hagemann lead rural areas. Solicitors plan visits in the next week or ten days to urge increases over last year’s gifts.

A meeting of Henry Red Cross War Fund workers is set in the directors' room of the War Bureau building on Monday March 1 at 7 p.m. Additional workers are needed to conduct the drive in residential districts. Volunteers are invited to contact Mrs Gordon Downey by Friday evening. Mrs Gordon Downey and D K Farr co chairmen.
The Henry News-Republican retracts a prior report announcing the engagement of Lewis V. Humphrey and Laura Jean Crouse, stating the information was without basis in fact and offering apologies to all parties involved.
J E Brennan a longtime mortician in Peoria suffered a coronary thrombosis while visiting the Carlos Bogner home. He was rushed to St Francis Hospital by Lindbloom ambulance. Brennan recently received a navy medical discharge and his wife Mrs Brennan a registered nurse remains by his side as treatment decisions await today.
The Marshall County chapter of the American Red Cross held a War Fund kick-off at the LaCon court house on Tuesday February 27 at 8 o clock. Fred G Garrels opened the meeting and Miss Gladys Sivell led a brief business session with about 66 present. Miss Edmy Stoner was named to chair the Prisoner of War Service Committee as five Marshall County boys were held as POWs.
