State Begins NRA Road Bids Evaluation
The state department of public works and buildings opened bids on a series of NRA road projects dated yesterday. Projects include 8.01 miles of pave ment and .99 miles of bituminous resurfacing with a total value around $544,428. Apparent low bidder R A Cullinan Tremont submitted $2,789 for 0.45 miles of traffic bound surface on SA Route 15 from Route 88 to the Stark county line in Marshall county.

Construction Met Book Over Bridge Site
Four representatives of Powers Thompson Construction Joliet low bidders on the Henry bridge sub structure inspected the site this week with plans to start removing the old span when weather permits. A conference with the state highway department in Springfield is planned to finalize an agreement with McGlintic Marshall for the steel superstructure. Hog Processing Tax Jump to 2 1 2 Cwt Under New Plan
The federal hog processing tax rose from 1.50 to 2.25 per hundred pounds liveweight at midnight Feb 28. Secretary Wallace cited the move as the final progressive increase under last December's plan. Up to 350 million in adjustment payments will be made to hog producers from the tax proceeds. The Chicago hog market hit 4.95 per cwt as demand rose with light receipts.

County Receives Gas Tax Funds From State
State finance department announ ces the Marshall county allotment of 15685.0 dollars from state gasoline tax with net proceeds after admin and refunds totaling 2,114,098.57. One third goes to counties, one third to the state, one third to cities. Forty counties use the 20 million bond issue for emergency relief. Cook county contributes most to bond interest and retirement fund. The fund totals 137,500 with Cook county at 16,991.70 and the other 39 counties at 10,508.30. Motor fuel tax thus acts as substitute tax to avoid other tax increases.

Man Falls Into Elevator Shaft At Duke Bros Store
William Rickey Jr. suffered a broken leg after stepping into a down elevator shaft at Duke Bros store last Friday morning. Frosted glasses impaired his vision as he opened the shaft gate and fell 12 feet to the basement. he was moved to Perry Memorial hospital in Princeton and is recovering.
