Fire Threatens Farm Home Near Varna
A Tuesday afternoon fire of undetermined origin threatened the Guarnz family home near Varna on LaRose road. Neighbors and Varna Fire Department helped extinguish the blaze after it burned holes in the wall and roof. Louis Kelm aided in stopping the fire before full destruction, and Anna Lenz assisted after a long exertion. The family faced extensive cleanup but avoided total loss.

Former Marshall County resident Fitchorn died at his son John W Fitchorn’s Keensburg Colorado home after a two year illness due to high blood pressure. He was 79 with extensive survivor list including wife Mary Barker who predeceased him and children Lilly Dunn Laura Thiel John W Fitchorn. Word reached here Saturday of the death of Dr. E J La Page former resident and Knights of Pythias member who died at Mayo Brothers hospital Rochester Minnesota after several years illness. He practiced as a chiropractor in Henry and later had an office over the Henry National Bank. He was a member of the Elks lodge in Peoria and the Knights of Pythias here.
