Frederick Zieg attended the Johns Hopkins Medicine program and was enrolled since 1944 after a stint at Nations Naval Hospital. A Phi Nu Phi pledge and Sigma Nu member, he is the son of Mr and Mrs Harry Teglee of Henry. He plans further medical training after one year of service in the Navy.
Fabby announces the night cost spares nothing and he can raise rabbits. Bobby had rabbits on his ranch in Henry West, though feed prices are high. Yet he remains encouraged by a strong local market for fat rabbits, planing to start a larger herd soon.

Mayor L F Klein of Henry travels to Springfield to press the Illinois Commerce Commission on a petition by Walter Winkler of Lacon to extend bus service from Henry to East Peoria. The plan aims to serve Caterpillar workers and city residents while avoiding conflicts with Rock Island line buses.
Bryan Williams of Illinois Central Telephone reports that a segment of underground cable at Henry’s west edge was shifted about eight feet to accommodate a new Henry to Redtown blacktop highway. About 400 feet of cable with 50 wires was moved last week and more of the line will be relocated as Western Avenue construction proceeds. Company crews from around the state are expected to assist with the moves.

Commander Roland Smith announces a four day Fourth of July celebration in Henry and Marshall Putnam Counties from Thursday July 1 to Sunday July 4. A parade will feature floats drum and bugle corps and school bands with $5 entry fees refundable after the parade. Fireworks are planned on two nights and the American Legion promises an outstanding festival.
Henry PresbyterIan Church from Spokane reports Rev Francis Rhoades former pastor attended the Presbyterian General Assembly in Spokane as a delegate from Indiana. The assembly urged Congress to address housing shortages and protested universal military training, denouncing the postwar record of Congress as a shameful violation of decency and veterans' duty.
Dayne Farr, cashier of Henry State Bank, attends the Illinois Bankers Association convention at Edgewater Beach Hotel in Chicago on June 3 and 4. Principal speakers include Dr Bowen of the University of Illinois and J C Penney. Attendees span Marshall and Putnam counties with numerous local couples at the banquet. Harry Emerson of Cairo elected association president.
On Wednesday morning near Henry Illinois, local lads fished the Dewey elevator and caught bullheads and perch. Participants included Jim Thirkell Bobby Koehler Donald Hawkins and Wayne Van Ostrand. Thirkell used live minnows while the others used worms. Most fish gather near the Prairie Farms Creamery sewer outlet downstream of the elevator.

Congregation in Henry led by Rev. C E Bidwell is constructing a church on North Street relying on faith and hard work. Members dig, carpenters from Henry assist, and volunteers provide lunches while the frame rises. They aim to weatherproof and finish interior features as funds allow, with services planned upstairs once possible.
Elizabeth Specht widow of Frank Specht Jr. died about 9:30 a.m. Monday June 7, 1948, in Lacon. A nurse by training, she served Peoria and Des Moines hospitals for 14 years and was a stockholder and director of the First National Bank for 20 years. Survived by nephew Peter Schuttler and Germany relatives, she supported her church and home, keeping immaculate grounds, and was mourned by many friends. Funeral at Immaculate Conception Church with burial in Lacon Catholic Cemetery.
The first weekly band concert drew strong attendance with Henry band performing without the seniors away on tour. Esther Miller, Ronnie Magnuson, and Hirby delivered excellent solos as Arthur Blocher directed and Mrs Blocher played drums. The next concert is set for Wednesday night June 16.
Charles Benjamin Dewey born April 6 1883 Mineral Illinois passed away June 6 1948 at Sweeney Convalescent Home Peoria Illinois after five years of illness. He was senior member and vice president of the Henry Dewey grain firm with offices in Peoria. He married Elizabeth Wyckoff in 1909 and had two sons William and Robert. He was a devoted family man outdoorsman and a Mason and Shrine member. Funeral held at Western Avenue residence with Unitarian minister Rev Joseph Allen. Henry Cemetery services followed with Masonic rites. He leaves wife two sons four grandchildren and several relatives.
Henry City Council accepted a plan from Bissell Shaver owner of the Henry Theatre to admit children up to 14 free to the municipal pool all summer. The council agreed to a charity event with proceeds aiding pool expenses and urged local groups to promote ticket sales for a benefit show. The pool will operate at a break-even cost with a slight price increase for others.
