The annual Marshall Putnam pageant schedule for Tuesday and Wednesday August features shows its early history scenes and stock parade. Mrs. Mathis and Mrs. LaPrairie coord the program with Judg es Farr and others guiding cattle poultry and drives. The highlight is the six section pageant depicting the life and movement for freedom.
MP A chairman Ernest Wright reports the 1952 53 corn loan minimum is 1.62 per bushel for MP counties including nearby Bureau LaSalle Woodford and Stark. Parity based adjustments may raise the rate on Oct 1 to 90 per cent. No. 3 grade or better corn qualifies, with No. 4 by weight only if moisture stays under 20.5 percent.
Marshall county Democrats Wallace Kuss Danhof Gregg attended portions of the Chicago convention week. Wallace named Adlai Stevenson for president and Richard Russell for vice president as his choices. He noted Illinois delegates Douglas backers and Kefauver ties and praised Stevenson’s early acceptance speech broadcast by networks.
An on the farm event with Virgil Schlosser and others shifts to Wednesday at the Utica headquarters in Sthachwine high. Participants include Karl Bush, Al, and John de Klein with a class plan and sling activity. A new school build is mentioned as the goal.
Benjamin G. Hoyle, president of Farmers State Bank of McNabb and Marshall-Putnam county chairman for the Illinois Bankers association federation on agriculture, stresses adequate capital for modern farming. He notes rising costs, larger farms, and labor shortages pushing more production to banks with loans mainly for production and operating needs.
Adlai E. Stevenson of Illinois was nominated Friday in Chicago by the Democratic party as their candidate for President of the United States. His selection marks a key milestone in the party’s bid for the White House.
A coroner's inquest in Lacan city hall found Raymond W. Hoppe 30 of Varna died by his own action from cyanide gas fumes. Hoppe was found dead in his Varna room Sunday morning by his mother. he had returned home about midnight. Funeral services were held at St Paul's Lutheran church Varna with burial in St Paul's cemetery. He is survived by his parents and one sister.
Superintendent L. T. Schubert announces resignations of William R. Douglas band instructor and John Shields Jr. agriculture teacher. Three hires replace them by contract: Clifford Harris for band at Varna, Robert Lenz for agriculture at Bradford, and Gene Hyde for sixth grade at Lacon. Hyde studies at Macomb Teachers College.
James P. Lannon of Saunemin, member of the General Assembly, sought relaxation at the Democratic national convention. He realized his $50 bill was missing after paying a check, thinking it might be in another suit. The bill had blown off a table and rolled under a bed on the Morrison floor.
Robert E Hauger of Magnolia has returned home after serving in Korea with Co F 27th Infantry. He took part in Heartbreak Ridge earning three battle stars and multiple citations. After a 30 day furlough he went to Camp Custer Michigan.
The sole remaining old fashion threshing outfit in Marshall Putnam counties runs by Clinton Lundgren and son Charles of Varna finishes this week. This year it handled four jobs in the Varna area down from five last year as the region shifts to modern combine harvesting.
Putnam county announced University of Illinois scholarship winners. Recipients include Dolores Strode Granville for Agriculture Edward Schrowang Granville for Home Economics Marilyn Macrine Hennepin William Smart son of a World War I veteran Granville. No applicant listed in II. The notice came from Sisto Patarozzi assistant in the office of county superintendent William Glover.
William Glover county superintendent of Putnam County and C W Swanson Marshall County superintendent attend a county superintendents workshop at Pere Marquette State Park Grafton from July 28 to 30.
Harold Nesbitt, long time employee of the Aledo Times-Record in Mercer county, will join the Henry News-Republican staff within a few days. He is a recognized local journalist with years of reporting experience.

A community mourns the death of Dr B Q Dysart on a West Coast trip. A longtime general practitioner, he served hundreds and led a busy life balancing medicine with family photography lectures. The Dysart family of six daughters and the widow endure the loss as local groups recall his steady kindness.
Word reached the press that Mrs Dysart plans to leave Yakima by train on Thursday morning and will arrive at Bureau on Saturday morning with the doctor's re taping. Funeral plans announce a service not before Monday and possibly Tuesday. The Dysart funeral home of Grant is in charge of arrangements, to be announced after Mrs Dysart's arrival on Henry Saturday.
The Marshall county board of School trustees met Saturday at the court house in Lacon to transfer 20 acres of land from LaRose grade school district No 103 and non high school district No 37 to Toluca community unit district. The land owned by Shanklin lies 2.5 miles west of Toluca and has a history of changing districts through reforms and petitions. The board considered forming contiguous territory to add more land to Toluca's unit.
All trustees attended the Saturday night gathering with Lester Legh of Toprawie as president Ray Litchford Toluca Vira Gustafson of Saratoga Beet McKee and Emory Johnson of Varna Cleland Manter of Lacan Roscoe Balt of Wenona and C W Swanson county superintendent serving as secretary The county board expects more petitions soon and may record a transfer of a 20 acre tract as its first action with larger parcels to follow.
Henry Boy Scout leader Bryan Williams and 23 scouts from Troop 74 enjoy a week at Camp Wokanda near Chillicothe. The boys traveled Sunday afternoon and will return Saturday afternoon, with parents providing transport.
A Sunday dedication service for a statue of Our Lady of Fatima was held at St. Joseph's Convent in Lacon with over 500 attendees from Illinois cities and abroad. A grotto shrine will house the statue, a gift from Mrs Osadian of Chicago, after a mass and procession led by Monsignor Kapala and local clergy.
An Illinois College of Agriculture gardening specialist states that when sweet corn kernels are full and plump but the milk is watery and squirts freely under pressure, the corn is in the milk stage and ready to eat.
The community learned of the sudden death of Dr Benjamin Quincy Dysart of Henry at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was 59. Dysart, who moved to Henry in 1929, helped found the local hospital with Dr Coggeshall. Family and friends scattered across states rushed to Yakima, while Henry stores prepared to close for the funeral.
