Democratic delegates from 21 counties met at Starved Rock Lodge to nominate three candidates for the November general elections Circuit Judge Allen Stouder J J Alloy and John Coryn were named Alloy led with 528 votes followed by Stouder 419 and Coryn 367 The contest opened after veteran Appellate Judge John T Culbertson Jr declined nomination and Rock Island State’s Attorney Richard J Stengel withdrew Also notes a farewell party in Princeton for Rev and Mrs Bert Bradbury and retiring pastor Mr Bradbury moving to Normal.

Republican delegates from the third Appellate district met in Peoria at the Hotel Pere Marquette to nominate three candidates Judge A J Schleneman of Sterling Judge James W Barr of Joliet and Rep Robert J Burhans of Peoria The district covers 21 counties Marshall county delegates attended and backed State's Attorney Pace as chairman The slate drew strong support with a 1000 delegate crowd and Burhans pledged to help sweep Goldwater and GOP ticket into office Judges may serve 10 year terms with 25000 salaries and run on record.

Bids for Henry bath house project rejected as costs exceed estimates
Four bids for the Henry municipal bath house came in well above the $18 000 estimate. Robison Bros of Henry offered 29 200, N O Reed 40 000, Schrock and Glaub 36 200, and Phillip J Hoerr 46 140. The council rejected all bids and planned to revisit drawings with architect Tom Landes to solicit smaller scale bids. Rev Fr Laurence Schumacher proposed extending South Front street to aid St Mary’s church, withabout three acres offered for needed right of way and fill.
