Car Plunges From Road Near Sparland Mine
A Saturday night crash on Route 2 near Sparland involved Jesse C. Duncan and Tesmer C. Campbell. Duncan sustained a skull fracture and other injuries. Campbell suffered two broken ribs and cuts. They were hospitalized in Henry. The unnamed Spring Valley driver fled the scene after the crash.

The Chicago Rock Island and Pacific I railroad posted June net operating income of 1 406245 on gross revenue of 7090390, up from 33805 a year earlier. First half 1937 gross revenues reached 39024682, with a 66 million spending on improvements, and a 823899 net loss for six months.

Engineer on Big River Boat Moves to Henry
Mr and Mrs W E Herd relocated to Henry on Friday from Peoria and occupy the C A Pratt home. Mr Herd is chief engineer on the E D Kenna, the big river boat making regular Havana to Chicago trips stopping in Henry to refuel. Their son Shortes, 12, will attend school in Kentucky during the winter.

Large Shovelfish Caught in Illinois River
George Carrier and Henry fisherman reported a four foot long shovelfish weighing 20 pounds from the Illinois River south of Henry. The paddle shaped head measured a foot, and the mouth was hog sized. The fish dressed at 16 pounds and sold to a Granville resident for ten cents a pound.

W M Sutherland near McNabb harvested 1799 bushels from 20 acres, almost 90 bushels per acre, the Read farm near Senachwine Township yielded 2581 bushels from 29 acres at 89 bushels per acre. Sutherland stored oats on his farm using a silo blower method from a cutter for lifting into the barn.

New Corn Worth 58 Cents a Bushel At Local Elevators
Current quotations show new No 4 yellow shelled corn deliverable by Dec 16 at roughly 68 cents a bushel at Henry and nearby shipping points. Henry Farmer Severely Injured Threshing Accident
Henry Farmer, five miles west of Henry, was severely injured Thursday while helping threshing on his farm. Divilbiss, using a pitchfork to clear wheat, drove the fork tine into the main drive belt, injuring him with two broken ribs and a punctured lung. Clifford Griffith transported him to Henry hospital. he is expected to recover.
