Suspicion grows that politics influences the timing of corn hog and hog reduction payments to Illinois farmers. Republicans say officials may delay checks to affect fall elections, while AAA notes data errors in Illinois and Ohio production estimates required revision before payments.
Paul Wunder aged 78 died at his Lacon home last Wednesday evening after several days illness. Born in Henry Illinois he spent most of his life in the area. Survived by wife two sons John Hopewell township and Peter Peoria Heights and two sisters Mrs Kate Holler Lacon and Mrs Anton Stadel Henry. Funeral held at 9 in the home and 9 30 at Immaculate Conception Church Lacon with Fr Ernest Hawley officiating Burial in Lacon Catholic Cemetery.
Abraham Bell former resident of Henry died Sunday at a Peoria hospital aged 64. Funeral services were held Tuesday in Peoria and his burial took place at Henry Cuy cemetery. He is survived by his widow three children Oral and Bertha of Peoria and Mrs Clarence Poling of Henry two brothers Henry Bell of Henry and Robert Bell of Camas Washington and five grandchildren.
Calvin J. Studyvin, former Hennepin resident, died Monday evening at 8 o'clock in Peoria after prolonged illness. Born February 26, 1857 in Hennepin, he lived much of his life in Toledo and Chicago. He married Margaret Holmes who preceded him. Surviving: two daughters Mrs. H. R. Klein of Toledo and Mrs. Edna Deyol of Tinley Park Ill, son Maynard of New York, two brothers Edward and I. A. Studyvin of Peoria, two sisters Mrs. Inez Haley and Mrs. Edna Stewart of Peoria. Memorial rites were held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Comerford-Endsley Memorial home in Peoria with burial in Henry Cemetery.
Seven boat companies operate on the Illinois river with bi weekly service from St Louis to Chicago and Starved Rock. Operators include Federal Barge Lines Smith Putnam Illinois River Packet and Eagle Packet alongside Kingston Lake Sand and Gravel and others. Towboats push 1500 to 6000 tons per trip, promising tonnage to double last year if movement continues.

The estate of John Henry Brevoort, longtime Rutland resident and former Rutland Record publisher, was offered for probate in Lacon. The probate shows a large fortune including 400000 in cash and securities and 810 acres of farmland in Marshall and La Salle counties. The will directs the cash to Bloomington and Normal charities and the farms to tenants as specified. A codicil altered several bequests. May contest and tax inquiries loom.

President Roosevelt signed the Public Domain bill known as the Taylor bill to regulate grazing on 80 million of 178 million acres of unappropriated public domain in the west. Walter McKirgan youngest son of Mrs. Jennie McKirgan Magnolia is seriously injured and unconscious at St Marys hospital Streator after falling from a moving car on a dirt road east of Lostant at 1230 a m Wednesday. He and Murray Hauger were on the running board as Charles Spear and Earl Partridge drove. the car lurched hitting a bump and pitched them off. Hauger escaped major injury.
Powers Thompsons officials report the Henry bridge labor halted mid day due to extreme heat. If heat persists shifts may be arranged for cooler morning and evening hours to ease hardship.
Construction crews operate two shifts on the new bridge over the Illinois River at Spring Valley. The first shift runs 4 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and the second from 2:30 p.m. to 2:44 a.m. They aim to finish the rew bridge efficiently and minimize downtime.
Plans under Frank Stewart move to entertain a record State Legion convention crowd September 1 2 3 4 in Peoria. Sons of the Legion will attend with drum corps prizes and 3000 hotel reservations set. Edward A Hayes national commander will attend as 100000 spectator parade expected Labor Day if weather permits.
Ernest Cox aged 69 a Chillicothe restaurant owner died at his home from heat prostration Monday night. Known as Ernie he ran a restaurant 15 years and was born in England. He served in the Boer War and later piloted riverboats on the Illinois and Mississippi. He is survived by his wife and a nephew in Chicago.
A plan discussed in Springfield would extend Illinois sales tax to cover more professions and non retail business to sustain emergency relief funds without new real estate taxes. The 2 percent rate would not rise, but a broader base would tax gross receipts from professionals artisans and other service providers. The current tax expires July 1 and re enactment is to be debated at a special session after the November election.
Spring Valley sets August 5 for dedicating the Amer icart Legion memorial cannon at the city park. The program will include the full American Legion unit and likely the auxiliary with Congressman Everett M. Dirksen delivering the dedication address.
