Flax crop in two counties near harvest time
Lester Leigh chair man of the Marshall Putnam Agricultural Conservation Association says the flax crop in La Prairie Toluca area is nearly ready for harvest. Farmers plan to cut and thresh with a combine then ship flax seed to Chicago for sale at about 1.90 a bushel. Fiber is kept by farmers for farm use. Local growers have adopted flax under the federal farm program.

Two Henry Soldiers on Furlough from Texas Camps
Private Bob Slater and Private Walter Kobo, both stationed at Camp Barkeley Abelene Texas, have one week on a ten day furlough visiting relatives. They came by auto from Camp Barkeley after training at Camp Wolters. Private DuBois in the 157th Infantry recently qualified as a chauffeur to move field radio gear. The unit was in intense maneuvers, with one task driving at night without lights. Slater plans to return to camp Monday as the division prepares to move to Louisiana on August 2 for several weeks of maneuvers. The weather in Texas is very warm.
