Henry city council approved funding of slogan signs proclaiming Best Town In Mirors By Dam Site at all three street entrances. Aldermen Stoner Schneider and Heinrichy authorized Walter Wood to paint and erect signs, no tax cost, funded by public subscriptions. Water main work and fire safety inspections were also noted, including a plan to inspect Hutchins building after partial destruction.

Henry Hoffman obituary notes long Illinois farming life
Henry Hoffman died at Henry hospital on Tuesday evening after a gastric cancer hemorrhage. Born December 20, 1858 in Califon New Jersey he moved to Illinois and worked as a farm hand at Wheatland Township for over sixty years. He lived on the Mead farm, aided the Urts family after Ed Urts death, and moved to Henry last fall. Survived by his widow and siblings, funeral services by Rev. W J Carpenter will be held at Mrs Shorts home Friday at 10 o clock. Burial in Henry City Cemetery. Burial director A C Gomi.

Mabel Harrington Dies At Age of 33
Mabel Harrington died at a Peoria hospital at 6 p.m. Thursday after a two and a half month illness from pneumonia and complications. She was the youngest of nine children of Joseph and Nellie Harrington, born August 14, 1908 on the Whitefield Township Harrington homestead. Funeral Monday at St Joseph's Church with Rev H B Causey. burial in St Patrick's Cemetery. Burial director R O Green. Surviving are six sisters and two brothers plus many nieces and nephews. Funeral attendees included relatives from Republic Missouri and Henry Illinois, with pallbearers eight nephews.

Sixteenth District Sportsmen Meet At Henry
The Sportsmen of the Sixteenth District met in Henry with Peoria Bureau Stark and Marshall counties represented. Woodford County could not attend. J Ray Saylor of Peoria County led the gathering, reflecting on the Springfield state conservation meeting and various conservation topics including supplying peepers and game lids to clubs for rearing and release. The new game code adopted by the Legislature was discussed.

The Beautiful new Hotel Henry was formally opened Wednesday evening with a chicken dinner for 146 guests from Henry and nearby towns. Attorney Charles P. Green renovated the $75,000 structure, restoring the lobby and dining room and adding new furnishings. An LaSalle orchestra provided music for dancing after a dinner featuring local and visiting guests.

New improvements at the W. W. Dewey & Sons elevator in Henry include a truck lift and new elevator to handle grain hauled by trucks. Farmers in Marshall and Putnam Counties expect record or near record yields across grain and hay crops after a wet spring and ideal growing conditions. A July 18 photo shows seven to eight foot corn on a Meridian farm in Whitefield Township planted May 4 with Krug seed. Legion approves roof contract for Henry American Legion building
The Henry post of the American Legion awarded a contract to Gerald Wabel and Bert Hoppler to install a new built up roof on the Legion building at Edward Street. The Legion plans interior refurbishments and basement repairs and noted success of the Fourth of July celebration co hosted with the Henry Fire Department. Proceeds from concessions funded repairs and renovations for both groups.

Yields of Wheat and Oats Best This Decade in Marshall and Putnam
Marshall and Putnam counties report their wheat and oats yields as the best in more than ten years. Wheat averages 60 pounds per bushel with up to 80 bushels per acre in some areas, while oats run 82 to 87 pounds per bushel and as high as 90 bushels per acre in places. Notable growers include Carter Shearer with 240 acres of oats at 70 bushels per acre and plans to market 7,000 bushels now, while Steuben Township reports a record 90 bushels per acre on seven acres. Reports note rust is limited and barberry eradication has reduced rust spread.
