The Hennepin Saddle club and Magnolia-Swaney group sponsor a rodeo day starting at 9 a.m. with timberland ride, lunch, and a 12 30 p.m. conclusion. Events include square dance, barrel race, bareback riding, Brahma bull riding, and acts by Chief White Indian and Pony Boy.

Magnolia farmer loses foot in Monday combine accident
Leon Steffens of Magnolia suffered severe injuries when his right foot and a toe of his left foot were severed in a combine accident Monday morning while working alone on his farm. He underwent amputation above the ankle and has received two blood transfusions at St. Margaret's hospital in Spring Valley where he is recovering. He is 86 and his wife Mildred Graham Steffens and children Judy and Randy survive. Neighbors later finished harvesting the Steffens oats.

Talmage Rites with Military Honors Held in Henry
Former Henry resident John Fletcher Talmage died Friday July 16 likely of a heart attack. Funeral services were Sunday at 2 pm at the funeral home with military honors. Color bearers and World War I veterans attended as part of the honor guard. Talmage, born April 6 1892 in Lacon, long lived in Henry after moving from Fletcher Reed family.

State law empowers Henry weed control and liens
Gov. William G Stratton signed bills in Springfield including a measure allowing municipalities in Henry and other towns in Marshall and Putnam counties to cut weeds on neglected lots and place a lien on owners to cover costs. Other actions included vetoing a tavern check cashing bill and enacting loyalty oaths for state workers and teachers plus a 60 day cooling off period in certain divorce cases.

Drowned Kewanee Boy 17 In Henry River
Jack Ray Harding, 17, of Kewanee, drowned Tuesday afternoon in the Illinois River near Water Works Park in Henry. His body was recovered an hour and a half later by Mervin and Lyle Hall with help from Kenny Feddericke. An inquest was scheduled for 8 p.m. at Boose funeral home.

Orie Fountain Lifelong Resident Laid to Rest
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Henry Methodist church for Orie Fountain of 1037 Western Avenue who died Saturday morning at St Margaret's hospital in Spring Valley after a long illness. Born August 21 1883 in Whitefield township he lived his life as a farmer and carpenter before settling in Henry. He was survived by six grandchildren two step grandchildren a brother Robert Bruce Fountain and many other relatives. Interment followed in the Henry city cemetery with nephews serving as pallbearers.
