Coan Enlists in Civilian Conservation Corps

Former Odell resident Rosella Lyons dies at 27
Rosella Lyons a former employee of Illinois Central Telephone died July 10 in Odell Illinois from a heart attack. Funeral services were held at St Pauls church Odell July 11 with casket bearers James Glennan William Keeley John Duffy Clarence Adams George Verdun Francis Higgins. She was born in Pontiac in 1907 and is survived by her parents two brothers and a sister.

The corn hog control committee surveyed two counties and found insufficient cooperation to raise the 1934 corn reduction from 20 to 30 percent. Farmers largely planted as limited by their contracts, drought and pests reduced stands, and reappraising acreage would delay payments. Signers must not increase contract acres now.

Wound Proves Fatal to Jim Sivelle in Henry
Jim Sivelle a 25 year old Henry resident died after an operation for a gunshot wound to his left shoulder. A coroner's inquest found death indirectly caused by the accidental bullet wound with witnesses including Mayor Otto and Ray Sivelle. Burial was in Henry City cemetery after services at A B Smith Funeral chapel.

B. H. Pinnell, a famed Illinois cattle feeder, has been hired by the Production Credit Corporation of St. Louis to contact livestock feeders in Illinois and Missouri. All Male Inmates at Marshall County Farm
For the first time in Marshall county history the Steuben township county farm has no female resident. Twenty eight people live there, all men, with ten over eighty. The farm has separate men and women buildings, and George Wiley serves as superintendent in the women's building. It may be the only county farm in the state with all male inmates currently.

Two Wanted Men Arrested in Minnesota Extradition Case
Olin Burwell alias Robert Stillson and his brother Doyle Burwell were arrested in Henry by Officer Sleater and Sheriff Axline at the request of Benson Minnesota authorities. They await extradition to Minnesota on highway robbery kidnapping and automobile theft charges. Their wife was also arrested.

The James Newman family held its second annual reunion at Waterworks park in Henry on Sunday July 15 with a noon dinner and 2 pm program. Speakers recited works about family history including Frederick Reinbeck and Harriet Kidney Reinbeck, and Mary Newman. J J Cavanagh of the Chicago Motor Club reports 927 767 039 gallons used in 1933 as more cars travel and higher usage grows nationwide. Twenty four states plus the District of Columbia show gains from 1932 with total consumption reaching 14 224 321 270 gallons. New York Pennsylvania and California exceed one billion gallons. State gasoline taxes total over 500 million dollars with rates from two to seven cents per gallon and an average nationwide tax of 3 65 cents per gallon.

Funeral services for Paul Marshall former Henry resident who died in Little Rock Arkansas were held Saturday afternoon at the George Bergantz residence. Rev Roger F Cressey presided with Henry post 328 American Legion in charge. Burial details not provided. Marshall born March 3 1896 spent most life in area and married Anna Bergantz May 4 1921. He leaves widow a brother William of Reedy W Va a sister Bessie Bizunowiscz Chicago and an uncle Benjamin Horton Kas along with cousins and relatives. He worked as a Rock Island Railway section worker and lived in De Pue six years with De Pue Zinc Refining Co.

Horses killed by lightning hit two farms
During last Friday's electrical storm two horses were killed at the Leon Fosdick farm in Whitefield township and one horse was killed at the William Zeigler farm near Henry.
