From the assessor's book in Henry township the News-Republican lists total personal property at $483800. Autos dominate holdings with 294 cars valued at $41890 and 172 horses on farms valued at $10030. No grain on hand is valued at $2.
Rev Klusmann and family of Bell Plain township and Mrs George Martin and family were east and southbound respectively when their cars collided at a corner near the Fairview school house Friday evening. No injuries occurred. Minor damage included a cut tire and a deranged fender and door. A hedge at the corner obscured views and has since been cut to improve visibility. local road officials plan to make converging roads clearer for motorists.
Seven county boards of review and clerks met in Ottawa for a one day conference to standardize tax assessments in northern Illinois. E V Yockey of LaSalle county chaired the session, with LaSalle Grundy Kankakee Lee Livingston Marshall and Putnam counties represented. The morning focused on high tension lines and utilities properties, with other assessable items covered in the afternoon.
A Camp Grove boy, John Ross age, was injured Thursday afternoon when he was pulled into a road grader while playing with other children. He suffered a broken right arm and limb, a dislocated shoulder, and bruising. He was taken to the Methodist hospital in Peoria for treatment and is reported to be getting along nicely.
Mrs Blanche Duckett formerly of Henry, Iowa and daughter of Henry Martin, visited Henry last week meeting old friends. An accomplished musician she serves as Iowa state musician for the Ladies of the G A R. She left Friday for Toulon to visit brother H D Martin before returning to Des Moines Iowa.
Elizabeth Ellen Reichwine born 1867 in Berks County Pennsylvania moved to Illinois with her parents at age six. She married Harvey E. Allen in 1889 at Hennepin and had three daughters. Funeral services were held at the home with Rev Barstead officiating and interment in Florid Cemetery. She leaves husband three daughters and two grandchildren.
Miss Ella Volker daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Volker wed George Pardieck son of Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Pardieck in a 4 PM ceremony July 14 at the parents home Varna. Rev Manteuffel officiated with Irene Volker as bridesmaid and Walter Volker as best man. A crepe gown and matching slippers were worn. Dinner followed for family and bridal party. The couple will reside in Peoria after July 22.
Former Henry resident Mrs. E S Teagarden died at her home in Boulder Colorado on July 11 after a period of illness. Mr. and Mrs H L Brown announced the sad news on Tuesday. Funeral services were held Friday with more details to follow.
A report states work began this week on the Lacon Spar land dike to prepare a mile long cross river connector. The roadway will be widened to 80 feet with a rip rap seawall and later a 20 foot pavement will join routes 17 and 29.

Richland township to gravel the road between Tax school and Wilbern with all weather coating on Carriers and Safford hills and a gap north of the McKee home to be graveled at once. The Marshall county board of supervisors approved funds to be used for graveling and Richland plans extensive graveling for year round travel. Farmers donate teams and wagons to aid hauling.
Steuben 4 H Club met at Charles Bish op home on Tuesday July 10 with nearly all members present. They planned three demonstration teams including a dairy calf handling demo by Milton Dennis and James Russell, swine sanitation by Ellsworth Bishop and Hershel Hicks, and seed corn selection by Harry Eugene Kehlenbach. A community social event is planned and a 100 percent attendance goal set for the club tour on July 25.
Obituary for James D. Mercer age about 73 of this city who died at his Oklahoma City residence after a sudden illness. Mercer was a prominent member of the Central Illinois conference of the Methodist Episcopal church and served in Washington and Henry among other towns. He left Peoria for the west five years ago and is survived by a son, a noted physician of Chillicothe Illinois. Funeral services will be held in Oklahoma City.
Farm Bureau Day is planned at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield on Friday August 24. The Illinois Agricultural Association will set up a headquarters tent with chairs and rest facilities similar to last year.
Edward I Manski 60 of Chicago died after a stroke at Ravenwood hospital. He was buried Tuesday in Henry Illinois Calvary cemetery after funeral at St Marys church. He is survived by three sons Edward William and Fred a sister Mrs Herman Hofer and brother Charles Manski.
Vernon Henry ten year old son of Mr and Mrs David Henry of La Rose is recovering from a broken leg and numerous bruises suffered in an automobile accident Tuesday morning near Chillicothe. He was trapped under the truck when two cars collided head on as they returned from Peoria with hogs. His father then drove him to Chillicothe where a doctor treated the broken limb and he is expected to recover fully with time. Robbers took tools, meat, and a ball and bat from the truck while Mr Henry was away.
Mrs. Wm Maubach entertained Tuesday afternoon for the birthdays of her daughter Leona Mae and cousin Dorothy Zook of Washburn. Children played on the lawn, candles were lit on two birthday cakes, gifts unwrapped, and a birthday treat served. Guests included Marion Bestold Dorothy Casey Freda Okerberg Ruby Carlson Lillian Linderer Helen Anderson Jeanette Schwab Rita Craig Lillian Schlosser Vernon Schlosser and Dorothy Zook plus visitors Mrs Frank Schwab Helen Schwab Mrs Jos Schlosser and Miss Mollie Linderer.
Henry locals Jud Ong renewed acquaintences in Venona on Sunday. Mr and Mrs Joseph Ziegler and Mrs H W Ziegler and Frederick visited in Peoria Wednesday morning. Mr and Mrs Ray Warner and children visited Sunday with Mrs Warner's parents Mr and Mrs Will Austin in Bradford. Peter Trost and wife returned Saturday from their wedding trip east and visited her parents on Wednesday with Thelma Donahue and other family members. The Christian Endeavor Society held its first meeting and elected officers: president Inkleberger and secretaries Fern Hupp Bracken Smith Donahue.
Helen Eddingfield five in Magnolia narrowly escapes severe injury when thrown from a binder as horses bolted. Her sister Mae cried out. the father stopped the horses and pulled her from the rollers. Clothing torn, body bruised and skinned, but no bones broken. she is reported to be recovering.
Mrs. Anneta Jacobs, born 1854 in Iowa, married William Jacobs in Lincoln Neb., four children. After years of loss she died at 74 and was buried from the M E Church in Wilmington NL, City cemetery interment beside loved ones.
In Sunday’s Henry High School tennis event the Swaney boys Koehler and Morgenson defeated Holmes and William Shearer of the Saratoga Club after a hard fought 16 games to take the doubles 9 to 7. Kofoid of Swaney beat Holmes 6 1 in both sets. Stanley Curley Boyle and Clear Creek Boosters defeated Gerald and Joseph Shearer 6 0 6 2 in doubles.
The International Circuit Chautauqua programs began Tuesday in the Henry gymnasium and run through Friday. Large enthusiastic audiences attended each event. Reported as among the best ever staged by the local Chautauqua association.
The Illinois Commerce Commission granted permission to the Peoria Bus Transportation company to operate motor buses on route 2 between Venona and Bloomington. The commission also permitted the Oglesby Motor Transfer company to run between LaSalle and Wenona.
Charles Wheeler, longtime resident of this city and former Putnam resident, died suddenly at his home this morning. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 4 PM at his residence with Masonic rites at the grave.
Judge Joseph Daily in Putnam county circuit court denied a new trial for Robert A. Ward former president of the First State Bank of Magnolia. Ward was sentenced to a term of one to three years in prison and a $160 fine. An appeal to the Illinois Supreme Court may follow.
C H Chilson of Galesburg auditor for the Illinois Agricultural Cooperative Association audited the M P Oil Company books ahead of the arrival of Sam Clucas the new bookkeeper from Peoria. Clucas plans to move his family to Henry once a suitable location is found.
Chester Coggshall left this morning for a several days stay in Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. George Pace will leave Sunday for a several months visit in Long Valley New Jersey.
