Marshall Putnam Fair celebrates 50th anniversary with new features
The Marshall Putnam Fair in Henry runs July 24 to 27 with a rodeo on wheels and new demonstrations by local women. The 50th anniversary includes expanded midway rides, improved concessions, and a demolition derby while the Quadrennial Assessment Lists publish for Marshall County with access through The Henry News-Republican and The Lacon Home Journal.

Fire Destroys Jolliff Trailer on Route 29
A tractor trailer loaded with 596 bales of hay burned on Route 29 north of Thunderbird Camp in northern Wisconsin. Driver Oscar Kelly of Sparland unhooked the load, moved the motor to safety, and battled fuel tank flames while Putnam and Henry fire crews fought the blaze. The trailer and hay were destroyed. the truck and contents were insured.

Fire damaged farm home during weekend storm
Firemen were called to the Charles Dawson farm west of Henry around 8:20 p.m. Saturday as lightning struck basement wiring. The Dawsons extinguished the small fire themselves.

Henry Grade School board met with President C B Cooper to approve minutes and finances. The district reported $84,161.02 in total funds as of June 30, 1971, marking its second year operating without anticipation. Putnam County Board Votes to Buy Dump Truck
Members of the Putnam County Board of Supervisors at the Hennepin courthouse voted to purchase a dump truck for the highway department from Granville Motor Company for 10023 dollars. They discussed redistricting to comply with the new constitution. The county now has four supervisors and will elect five at large. Next meeting set for Monday August 2.

Two Women Transferred To Peoria Jail
Mrs Sandra Gardner and Mrs Blanche Vance, both 26 from Peoria, were moved July 8 from Marshall County Jail to Peoria County Jail. They have six month terms at Marshall County expense for shoplifting with Mrs Betty Sax, previously arrested last December in Henry. Gardner and Vance were later sent June 28 to the Illinois State Reformatory for Women in Dwight, while Sax serves a year there. Gardner and Vance were not admitted to the reformatory and were returned to Marshall County.
