Duane Seibold, a Sparland farmer born 1917, died Sunday after injuries from a tractor accident near Frank's Hill on Thursday. He was taken to Peoria's hospital then to Sparland for memorial rites and leaves behind a large family and many friends.
A note indicates a Marshall County history meeting is scheduled, with local officials inviting residents to attend to discuss regional heritage and archival projects.
Ernest Rose was installed as president of the Henry Rotary Club for the coming year at a Monday noon meeting in the Farm Bureau building. He succeeds John Wosik and announced District Governor Leon Dawson will visit on September 13.
The Henry Chamber of Commerce announces its annual baseball trip to Chicago on Thursday August 5. The group will attend the Chicago White Sox versus the New York Yankees game at Comiskey Park.
An old Henry machine shop on Second Street was torn down by the owner Mrs Dysart and relatives. Debris filled seventeen truckloads to the municipal dump as neighbors watched. Rumors of a Howard Johnson restaurant or a Marshall Field’s purchase circulated but were denied.
Wayne Wallace, Henry Marina proprietor, asked Henry city council to reconsider a liquor license for the marina restaurant. The panel noted his nonresidence and the town’s Class A limits, but planned study of a possible new license category to allow serving liquor at the Henry Harbor Marina, while Wallace remains a Granville resident.
Lyle Inman of Crystal Lake and Chicago appeared before Henry city council to propose a 12 trailer court on his property at Riviera park. Project needs up to 800 feet of new six inch water main. cost about 4 dollars a foot with city paying 2 dollars per foot and Inman covering the balance. The plan includes 2,500 square feet per trailer and a license regime for the new court.
Henry council members debated raising water rates to fund extensions and pumping upgrades. The water department posted a 1963 64 loss and shrinking reserves, with current rates at 3.75 per quarter. Alderman Bickerman urged 7.50 to 8.00, while Mayor Magelli and Alderman Haas opposed an immediate hike. The issue to be revisited at the next meeting.
Alderman Ernest Rose reported doubt about enough city employees to write a health and hospital policy. Three applications are needed, and current interest is low. Social security vs municipal retirement costs were noted as options. Alderman Lawrence Bickerman announced a $475 bid for a council room air conditioner from Read Brothers. A state inspector deemed Henry pool in excellent condition and finishing touches on the bath house near completion with architect Tom Landes and contractor Herschel Robison.
The Norman Hoovers traveled to Cornell on Wednesday to meet Mr and Mrs Wilfred Jones of Thawville and their daughter Margie Jones a Coral Gables Florida guest staying with her sister and family until Friday.
Henry Illinois moves to zone control with a nine member commission to draft a preliminary ordinance. The council tabled appointments until July 26 while awaiting qualifications from submitted nominees.
The Tuttle Water company of Lacon filed with the Illinois Commerce Commission for a certificate of convenience and necessity to build and run a private water utility near Henry. A hearing is set for 10 a.m. Monday July 26 in Springfield with attorney O B Pace of Lacon representing the company. The farm lies north of Henry and is outside city limits, away from existing mains, and council reviews potential impact on Henry municipal water service and future city expansion.
Henry merchants hold their annual Maxwell Street Day on Saturday August 7 with many stores displaying sale merchandise on the sidewalk. The event is promoted by the Henry Chamber of Commerce retail committee.
The measure passed and was approved on July 12 1965 with signatures from Mayor Joseph Magelli and City Clerk Rita S. Kofold. The formal record notes the passing and attestation by city authorities.
