Partial opening planned for I-180 stretch in Illinois
The Illinois highway office in Dixon says the first 1.44 miles of I-180 from Intersouth to Route 26 should open by August 1. Bridge work continues with the Hennepin bridge, west-side deck contractor set to start in about two weeks, and completion targeted for late spring or early summer. Bids due July 23 in Springfield for concrete paving and grade separations related to I-180 and nearby routes.

A Friday July 12 meeting at 8 p.m. will be at the Cal Weber home Henry to discuss forming the organization for the handicapped with guest speaker Mrs Karl Smiley. Former Putnam Grain Co Manager Falls From Plane
Jerrold Potter, 34, of Pontiac Illinois, fell from a chartered plane at 8000 feet while en route to a Dallas convention. The Richard Gebaur Air Force Base rescue squad, Civil Air Patrol, and Ft. Leonard Wood troops suspended the search near Rolla Missouri until new information emerges. Potter had been Putnam Grain Company manager in the mid 1930s.

Rule Peorian Died From Skull Fracture
The coroner ruled a skull fracture caused the death of 21 year old Peorian Michael J Q Donnell found in a roadside ditch along Route 88 north of Lawn Ridge after an overturned car crash. The death occurred June 16 and involved car owner Donald Jolly and acquaintance James Graham.

Henry Grade Rents St. Marys Building For Lunch Increase
The Henry Grade School Board signed a one year lease for the St. Marys building using four classrooms and the basement at 4500 dollars. Robert Rosenthal offered to teach seventh and eighth grade math. The board raised hot lunch to 40 cents daily or two dollars weekly. August 20 21 set for final book rental fee registrations. Newcomers with elementary students should register before August 20. Current enrollment stands at 585. Budget hearing moved to August 19.

Henry Fireworks Draw Crowd for 4th Spectacular
About 18 000 people attended Henry July 4th American Legion fireworks held from a floating deck due to high water. City Policeman Ralph Childs said traffic moved out in similar time as last year with no incidents. Assistants included City Policeman Harry Davis Arnold Parker Jim Glatz State Troopers on Routes 18 and 29 Deputy Sheriff Joe Ryan and 10 to 12 Henry Legionaires helping manage cars parked in lines five or six blocks from Central Park toward St Marys and St Josephs Churches.

Western Avenue Extension Bids Open for Illinois Project
Bids will be received July 23 by the Division of Highways of the Illinois Department of Public Works and Buildings Springfield for 2.43 miles of surface course on Federal Aid Secondary Route 372 Section 436 in Marshall County. The extension of Western Avenue runs west from 1/2 mile relocation to the Stark County line and will be partially financed with county funds.

Henry City Council Approves Library Building Plan
The Henry City Council accepted the Henry Public Library Board plan for a 4000 sq ft one story building on the old mill site with a $80,000 cost. A $25,600 federal grant was approved and a $419,293 annual appropriation ordinance passed including a new well and water tower. The council also funded a $1,000 siren and pledged $100 to Region Four Tourism.
