Henry Fourth of July Show Draws Large Henry Crowd
Henry Post 323 American Legion staged a three day July Fourth celebration attracting large crowds. The Friday fireworks display over the Illinois River drew about eight thousand people, with motorboat races and jalopy racing also drawing attendees. Proceeds benefited the Legion and concessions ran by local groups in Central Park. The next event is the Selby McKinley rodeo at the Fair Grounds on July 26 and 27.

Local farmers market new wheat at Henry Saturday
Farmers in the Henry area began marketing their new wheat this Saturday. Yields reported range from 15 to 30 bushels per acre. The W W Dewey Son grain elevator received about 8 000 bushels since Saturday, with growers including Luther Mounts Harry Hufendick Jack Cristo John Kirby and others contributing. Prices rise to 98 3 4 cents per bushel. Norris Grain Company also reported about 10 000 bushels brought in mostly for storage. Wenona Man Pins Under Threshing Machine
M N Holmstrom a 55 year old Wenona resident suffered crushing injuries when a threshing machine toppled from a flat car at Wenona yards and fell on him. He with two workers removed the machine then carried to St. Mary Hospital Streator where doctors diagnosed a broken leg multiple broken ribs and possible internal injuries. The threshing unit was part of new equipment brought to town by train Monday.

The Idlewild moonlight excursion steamer carried 488 passengers from Lacon to Henry and back. A 19 piece dance band provided entertainment beyond dancing. Departed Lacon at 8 15 p m and returned by 9 15 p m with many planning a fall return voyage.

Mercer installs new walk in refrigeration unit at Anderson’s
Doug Mercer upgrades the meat department in Anderson’s Grocery Henry with a six by four by eight foot walk in cooler from McCray Refrigerating Company Kendallville Ind. The system uses a new coil and will keep storage around ten degrees below the federal 50 degree standard, improving safety and display. Engineers from McCray R T Marvel and G E Sloan assisted.

Emery A Turner of Springfield died after a six month illness at his home. Burial is set in Wenona Cemetery after services held in Wenona. He was born Aug 21 1887 at the Turner homestead west of Wenona. He married Marie Grant in 1910, lived in North Judson, then Springfield. Survives include four children, his father, two brothers, and two sisters.

Rev Joseph Hultberg longtime pastor of Wenona and Streator Swedish Lutheran Churches delivered his farewell sermon last Sunday and plans retirement. He served Wenona since 1923 and Streator full time since five years ago. Washburn Man Killed. Driver Held on Manslaughter Charge
C E Spangler a Washburn business leader was killed when Raymond Lee Thomas 82 of Peoria a photographer was arrested in Washburn for the hit and run that felled Spangler Thomas admitted striking him and said he believed he had only brushed him. Bond set at 15000 though coroner’s jury recommended no bail. Thomas faced Woodford County grand jury on a manslaughter charge after a coroner’s inquest found malice conduct. Witnesses described the dragging after Spangler approached Thomas car in front of Spangler insurance office. Spangler born 1878 near Chenou leaves wife two sisters and a brother. he long served Washburn community and church.
