Henry hosts large outboard boat race on the Illinois River
About 40 boats from Chicago Oak Park Moline Des Moines St. Louis and other cities raced Sunday along a Henry bridge course. Louie Hank organized the event with local volunteers. speeds averaged over 60 mph with one five mile heat completed in just over four minutes. No accidents occurred.

Man of Sparland Killed by Train at Crossing
Walter Burnett, 81, prominent Sparland and LaPrairie resident, was struck and killed by a Rock Island passenger train while walking from his home to the post office. An inquest heard the engineer described warning blows and Burnett’s habitual crossing routine led to the tragedy.

Mr Burnett born May 26 1856 in Roxburghshire Scotland died aged 81 1 1 0. He was the second of five children of James and Violet Beattie who emigrated to the United States in the early 1850s settling on Oakglade farm Marshall County then LaPrairie. Frank Hart 75 Passes Away in Putnam
Frank Hart, 75, of Putnam died at his home Wednesday night after years under a doctor's care for heart trouble. He was found after a fall on Henry street and had long fished and hunted around Senachwine Lake. A violin maker by trade, he sold many instruments, including left handed violins. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in Putnam Cemetery with Rev. W J Carpenter officiating and A C Lindblom directing.

New Local Pastor Named for Henry Presbyterian Church
The Henry Presbyterian Church called Ralph Martin a student from the Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Chicago to serve as minister after months without a pastor. Martin is the son of Rev. Theresa Watercott formerly of Henry died Monday July 5 at her sister Mrs Marraft’s home in Peru. Born July 20 1868 in Peru she worked in the Henry Watercott store millinery dept. She married Henry D Watercott in 1888. he died in 1909. Survived by niece Mrs Ed Hoscheidt and four sisters and a brother. Funeral at St Mary’s Church Henry with burial in Calvary Cemetery.

The Henry Illinois event drew up to 10 000 visitors this year and organizers plan to make it an annual Summer feature for the Illinois River Valley. The 1937 celebration included fireworks at Waterworks Park and boat races with the Tilley Carnival Company booked for three days next year. Sponsored by the Henry post of the American Legion and the Henry fire department, the event drew crowds exceeding expectations and prompted a unanimous vote to continue annually.

Henry to Build New Filling Station at Henry Bridge
Horace Morse will erect a filling station at the foot of the Henry bridge on the former Alex Daniels lot. Work has begun with plans to complete it within sixty days. Harry Morse will operate the station under lease. Ferdinand Kapraun, 80, of Henry, brought samples of a wild millet from his farm, noting it is unlike any weed he has seen.
