Jaycees conducted their annual Fourth of July chicken barbecue at Water Park drawing strong crowd demand. Berdin, chairman, noted the event sold out by 7 p m with hundreds of pounds of chicken and hot dogs served. A home delivery option proved popular while volunteers managed two shifts from morning to dusk.

Miss Ella Hamilton died Monday night in a Peoria hospital after a long illness. Brief graveside rites were held Thursday at Moss Ridge cemetery in Carthage with Rev John N Keller officiating. She was a native of Winchester born February 11 1883 and lived much of her life in Carthage where she worked in a dry goods store. Her survivors include her sister Mrs Grover Kirby of Henry and niece Mrs Joe Kuss of Henry with her two children Jose and Susan.

Curtiss Smith four year old son of Mr and Mrs Roy Smith of Henry was bitten Tuesday evening by a sickly looking squirrel. The animal was shot and sent to the State Health department to test for rabies. The child was taken to St Margaret's hospital for precautionary shots.

James W. Wabel Dies at 83. Rites Held in Henry
James Willard Wabel died Monday after surgery in Peoria at Methodist hospital aged 83 years 11 months and 15 days. Funeral services were Wednesday at Green Funeral Home with Rev. George Hunt officiating. burial in Henry Cemetery. Pallbearers included Robert Dewey Virgil Moore and Lewis Wabel Jr. He was born July 19 1882 near Streator Illinois and married Bessie Reinbeck December 27 1908. He worked at W. W. Dewey elevator retired 1952 and is survived by daughter Dorothea Frank Onyan three grandchildren and one great grandson. He also leaves a sister Grace Hedrick and several nieces and nephews.
