The Henry-Senachwine board hires Laverne Gene Weidler of New Boston NL to teach science at the high school. He will cover chemistry physics biology general science and mathematics. Weidler has two years teaching experience and fills the vacancy from Mrs Mathilda Nash who left in 1942. He attended Mt Olive High School and Illinois Normal College and is married with one son.

Another Successful Fourth of July Celebration
The American Legion and local groups staged a high calibre Fourth of July festival with street dances, free acts, and a near 60 entry decorated tricycle parade. Norman Steltl led a Granville band concert while motor boat races and a Monday fireworks display drew large crowds. Patriot prizes in Savings bonds energized the event, and a county carnival drew praise from residents and visitors alike. The Legion plans many months of work for next year’s celebration.
