Over $2000 is raised by swine breeders and Henry County citizens to construct fair grounds in Henry. The first fair will occur this fall, date to be announced. A Henry meeting appointed a committee to draft bylaws and elect officers at 1:30 p.m. July 10, with shares at $10 each for building purposes only.
The Henry High School class of 1897 met June 30 at Hotel Henry to honor twenty five years since planting a schoolyard tree. Five of thirteen attended: Mildred Clift Hughes Lulu Hillabrand Law George Harney Frank Ganzer Ira Hupp and Ra Hupp others joined in memory. George Harney organized the event with a dinner and class photo and a future reunion was planned.
J Conroy of Lacon has purchased the business and equipment of Br Daniels at Edwards street and will run a tailoring cleaning and pressing shop at the same location. Mr Daniels left Saturday for Iowa. Mr and Mrs Conroy have rented the Turner house on Richard street.
A fragment notes a Clayton Illinois pupil named DaLess as a classmate of Gordon Dow and Henry visitor during the Fourth of July period.
A burglar robbed the H. Campbell and F. H. Gehr stores at Sparland, fired shots at Watchman Kelly who halted the suspect, and escaped between buildings. Some change and a gun were taken, with a small amount of money taken in a second recent robbery.
Clark Swift of Whitefield Corners died after years of ill health on Sunday at 7 45 p m aged 81 1 2. He was born May 11 1841 and settled near Whitefield Corners with his family. He leaves a daughter Bertha Gebhart and son Merton Swift with two grandsons Percy and Claire. Funeral July 4 conducted by Rev Reeves with music by Mr and Mrs Irl Johnson. Burial Henry cemetery.
Rev Corbin and Mrs Corbin prepare to depart Henry and return to North China for a seven year missionary term. The couple have served abroad during furloughs, with Corbin earning Chinese government honors for public health work and guiding church discussions on China’s modern changes. Two daughters remain in the U.S. for education.
At Monday night’s session the city council decided to purchase a new fire truck with a powerful pump ladders hose and related paraphernalia to enhance firefighting facilities and protection for the city.
The American Legion 4th of July event in Henry drew praise for a well planned program. Jack's Military Band provided morning to evening music and Judge Jesse Black Jr. delivered a patriotic address attracting a wide audience.
Mr. Stringer returns to Henry after more than fifty years away. He recalls the Gran burg and Weis buildings and notes connections to E. C. Stringer and C. E. Burt. His family once lived two miles above Henry near springs, then moved to Missouri and beyond. One son works as a traveling auditor for Cudahy Packing Co. in Chicago.
The Country Woman's Club met June 29 1922 at Miss Kathryn Roesch home. Members shared Indian history and customs papers, sang Illinois, and heard Eleanor Ash sing. A Wierman child performed a dramatization to applause. Picnic planned for July 13 1922 at Mrs. Margaret Reismeyer home.
Marshall Lodge No. 63 O. E. S. all members are notified that the installation of officers for the coming term is moved from Wednesday evening July 5 to Wednesday evening July 12. Full attendance requested. H. J. Blackburn N. G. Hans A. Otto Secretary.
The Wymer Schlosser family held a Sunday reunion at the home place with about seventy attendees including Mr and Mrs Schlosser Sr and their children and spouses. A picnic dinner followed in the orchard as friends joined the gathering for a surprise celebratory event.
At Bradford Friday the Illinois Valley League set a new schedule for the second half as six towns were represented by delegates. Peru dropped from the league over a protest game. Henry and Wyoming tied for first and will settle the tie at a later date. Henry beat Lacon 6 to 2 in a full game with 1500 fans in attendance. Umpires were Deal and Miller.
