A Waterworks Park celebration features a Jaycee Chicken Barbecue in the afternoon, a large fireworks display over the Illinois River visible from the park at dusk, and a prize drawing in Central Park. Volunteers host free events with an emphasis on family fun.
The tenth Annual Appaloosa Show will be held July 6 and 7 at the Putnam fair grounds with entrants from several states and events including Halter Classes and a Bell Derby. The Peoria Regional Bloodmobile visits Toluca on July 17 from noon to 6 pm at the American Legion building, following a mid June county visit that netted 119 pints.

Dallas based Ling-Temco-Vought Inc announced that J and L and Laughlin Steel Corp now become subsidiaries. LTV officers said more than five million shares of J L common stock were bought at 85 dollars a share giving LTV 63 percent ownership and making J L the tenth active subsidiary of LTV.
City Council held a special meeting to decide financing for expanding the Henry water system. They favored General Obligation Bonds for lower cost and quicker funding and planned a referendum soon. The session also reviewed the faulty Henry fire siren and heard a proposal for a new siren.
Candidates in the Cerebral Palsy queen contest will be introduced at a free grand stand show in Central Park tonight around 8:30 p.m. The winner will be crowned Wednesday at 8 p.m. by Mary Hunter, the 1967 Cerebral Palsy queen. Prizes include a silver tea service, second place silver candle holders, and a glass relish dish with silver fork and spoon. The Junior Woman's Club and American Legion co sponsor the event.
Notification from St. Margaret's Hospital confirms a $1.2 million federal grant for construction of the Illinois River Valley Community Mental Health Center serving Bureau Putnam Marshall and Stark counties. Center will provide adult and child services including inpatient partial hospital and outpatient care and will involve local agencies and volunteers. Eihausen resigns at Sparland School Unit 3 effective immediately after 10 years in Sparland education.

Illinois extends gun owner registration deadline to September 1. Public Safety Director Ross Van Randolph says local law enforcement should delay enforcement to give residents time to comply. The $5 registration applies per owner. failure to register carries a $1,000 fine and up to one year in prison.
Jeff Jeppson Jr will continue as Putnam County Republican party chairman after a county convention held at the courthouse. John Grivetti Sr was chosen secretary treasurer and Willard Buck Spratt became vice chairman. Jeppson has led the party since 1962 and the gathering also discussed the November election.
Rev Welsey Kersch of Hennepin is president of the Quad County Mental Health association with Robert Rennick Tourlon as first vice president, Rev Edward Pinder Varna as second vice president, Mrs Lee Bromme Princeton secretary, Mrs David Newburn Granville treasurer, and Rev Russell Coates LaMoille public relations director. Directors plan to send a redraft of attachment 17 1 to Washington for federal approval and outline the association as an education body in mental health across Bureau Putnam Marshall Stark counties.
Henry Explorer Scouts held their final June meeting at the Henry Methodist Church. They discussed visiting Youth Centers with Jaycees to learn operations and plan to rent a dunking machine from Lacon Explorer Scouts for July 4th in the park. Gary Ziegler became acting secretary. Next meeting set for July 11.
Twenty nine Marshall Putnam 4-H campers leave Monday for five days at Camp Shawano ssee near Kankakee. Activities include crafts nature recreation and swimming with evening programs. Chaperones are Mrs Ralph Kneebone Toni ca Mrs Carrollyn Hunt and Bob Harris. They return Friday tanned and tired.
