A rain interrupted Fourth of July parade in Central Park drew 7124 participating children. Winners across bicycle tricycle and novelty divisions were Tammy Martin, Dori Ann Dawson, Doug Packard, Colleen Winship, Patty Jo Clift, Cheryl Salas and Mike Clift. Prizes ranged from five dollars to two dollars with carnival ride tickets for all entrants.

Amons Appointed Superintendent of Hennepin Schools
Leland L. Amons named superintendent of Hennepin School Districts 3 and 7. A Western Illinois University graduate, he previously led Scales Mound schools and served as business manager of the Kewanee system. He and his wife Betty Lou and their son plan to move to Hennepin, with Mrs. Amons set to teach second grade in 1962-63 after eight years of teaching.

At a Monday meeting at Hennepin high school residents supported a plan for a 95000 bond issue to enlarge the district school.
