Holly Mattingly and Michael Hinderliter earned Honorable Mention in Tempo magazine's Goodrich employee children art contest. Each received a $25 bond as part of the six Honorable Mentions among over 100 entries. Holly, 12, from Henry, and Michael, 11, from Lacon, are students with prior art training.

Parking problems at high school prompt ticketing
A new police car, purchased by Klein Motor Co for 4300 plus trade, is in service after Alderman Ahlstrom announced it at the council meeting. Tickets were issued for improper parking at Friday night’s high school basketball game with cars partly on the sidewalk, drawing ire from out-of-town attendees.

Percy to Speak at Lincoln Day Dinner in Lacon

Heart Association Receives 5975 Gift from Hoerr Estate
Marshall County Heart Association announced a bequest of 5975.21 from the estate of the late Arnold J. Hoerr of Henry, conveyed through executor Scott Madson. The gift counts toward the heart fund but not the current 7000 goal. Activities include Queen of Hearts Dinner February 13 at LaPrairie Church and a February 15 heart fund card party at Henry Grade School.

General Telephone Sets 1975 Plan For $58.9 Million In Construction
General Telephone announces plans to invest $58.85 million in 1975 for service improvement and expansion in about 1,000 Illinois communities. Five new switching offices will open in Arrowsmith Cabery Clay City Cisco Pleasant Plains and Stronghurst with latest local switching gear. An expanded Bloomington Normal long distance service will debut later this year as part of a $9 million three year project culminated in electronic long distance switching equipment. The program also calls for 1,600 miles of cable with 78 percent buried underground or in conduit.

J and L Plans One-Week Layoffs at Pittsburgh Plant
About 200 Jones and Laughlin Steel workers will be laid off for one week during the week of January 26 due to general business conditions. Some lines will shut down, with 150 others already on layoff since January 12. The Hennepin plant employs nearly 900 workers. Mrs H M Hartley visited Chillicothe from Monday through Thursday to see her sister and brother-in-law, Mr and Mrs Claire Snyder.

650 Served At Rotary Breakfast
About 650 people attended the fourth annual Pancake Breakfast hosted by the Rotary Club. Funds from door and advance sales totaled around 1,000 with sausage and cake sales contributing additional revenue for the Dan Hoffman scholarship fund. Don Vandiver led as general chairman.
