Reported door to door solicitation by girls claiming to represent a Girl Scout Troop. Money requests by girls are not allowed. fundraising is by approved council projects or adult drives. Report incidents to Charlene Nauman or any Girl Scout leader.
Senator Charles Pesty will headline the second annual Lincoln Day Dinner at the Lacon Country Club on February 12. The Republican State Central Committee sponsors the event with residents of Marshall and Putnam Counties invited to meet him and participate in a Q and A after his talk. A 7 p.m. dinner follows a cocktail hour.
Kennett Mc Millan will speak at the annual Farm City Night Banquet on February 4, 1975. The event, sponsored by the Henry Rotary and Chamber of Commerce, begins at 6 30 p.m. at St Marys Community Center. Tickets go on sale by January 17 and the purchase deadline, as well as refund deadline, is January 31.
Mrs John Orr entertained a Sunday afternoon canasta gathering with Mrs John Crocker Miss Ida Peterman and Mrs Lawrence Hoffman as the guests.
Rotary Club hosts the fourth annual Pancake Breakfast at Henry Grade School gym nasium on Sunday January 26 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pancakes and homemade sausage will be served by Rotarians with sausage packages sold at the door. Proceeds support the Dan Hoffman scholarship fund. general chairman is Don Vandiver.
Dr. Hazel Crain of the University of Nebraska Lincoln has been elected president of the National Association of Teacher Educators in Home Economics. She will guide information programs and support federal vocational education, with emphasis on renewal of programs expiring in 1975.
Production schedules for February and March at the B F Goodrich Chemical Company Henry plant have been reduced. Plant Manager C B Cooper announces twenty eight employees will be laid off the week ending February 2 and some staff will transfer to other departments. It is only the second layoff in the plant's history.
A construction trailer belonging to Ladd Construction Company was burglarized at the Routes 18 and 26 site in the early morning of January 14. Power tools, hand tools, and a cutting torch were stolen after the door lock was broken. An attempted break-in occurred on a second trailer, and a piece was removed from an end-loader while other parts were damaged but not taken.
New officers for 1975 were sworn in at the Hotel Kaskaskia in LaSalle with Lt. Joseph Harcar as president. Officers include Herb Klein, Winfred Prickett, Glenn Frederickson, Glenn Killen, and Robert Mizel. Judge Thomas R. Flood conducted the oath as guests heard from Harvey N. Johnson Jr. on privacy and police finance.
Two suspects are in custody at the Marshall County jail after a Sunday robbery at the Texaco station in Lacon. Barry M. Wilson 18 of Peoria Heights faces armed robbery charges with a $50,000 bond. an unnamed 16 year old Peoria youth is also in custody. The incident led to a pursuit and a brief stakeout on the McCluggage bridge where the getaway car was spotted. Attendants identified the suspects and a portion of a social security card was found in the billfold. The 16 year old is to appear in court today.
Marshall Putnam Soil and Water Conservation District will host its annual meeting at Mona's in Toluca on February 13 1975. The event features Robert D Walker presenting This is Our Land a slide and tape program with photos and music and four sections Land Use A Dark Era A New Day and America the Beautiful. A brief business session will include the election of two directors with terms expiring Philip Edgerley Granville and Dave Junker Varna. Tickets are available from district and extension staff including Donald Condit Gary Bade Terry Bogner Dave Junker Philip Edgerley Walt Townsend Bernice Pietsch or the S C S office in Henry.
The senior center lists weekly meals and programs from January 27 to January 31. Menu items include Roast Beef with vegetables, Pork Chops, Pancakes, Raviola Beef Soup, and Tuna Casserole with desserts. Daily activities feature Bingo, Social Hour, Sing Along, and ceramics projects led by Mrs. Fan of Chillicothe with notes on a January 16 flower slide presentation by Dr. Bayne covering Marshall Putnam and Lee counties.
Tammy Martin and Dave Gibbs were crowned queen and king at the H S Homecoming dance held in the school gym Saturday night. Last year's king and queen Kathy Sendelbach and Mark Allard crowned the new monarchs. The court included Cathy Francisco senior attendant and escort Shawn Piers, with attendants Michele Brown junior Marsha Brown sophomore and Beth Bauter freshman. escorts were John Keegan Harold Winship and Mike Hartley all seniors. The band La Z of Spear performed. Mr and Mrs W C Greek returned to their Henry home Sunday night after a week in McMinnville Tennessee and Sarasota Florida.
