The Bell Plain community unit met at LaRose town hall on Saturday January 7 with Mrs Ora Spangler as chairman. An orchestra including Roberta Spangler Marian Gibbs Mary James Zilm Edna Schumacher and Edyth Kimpling performed. Herbert Schumacher discussed the livestock feeding school. Lee brothers of Toluca and friends provided music. A stunt by Effie DeBolt Roberta Spangler Edna and Marian Kimpling and Marian Gibbs entertained. Sam Crabtree spoke on axes in Bell Plain township. Mr and Mrs Ed Gibbs were named delegates to the Outlook conference in Streator.

Ice breaks on Illinois river pond drowns two boys
Four boys on a pond formed by overflow waters near Oglesby waded across thin ice. Walter Fristock and Joseph Kleczewski both eight, drowned. Walter and Edward Kleczowski from Oglesby were saved, with two others drowning in the incident.

Lacon will retain a second class post office for another year according to Postmaster R. A. Blackmon in a Lacon Home Journal interview. Mrs Zetta Gehr aged 78 died at 3 this morning at the home of her daughter Mrs James Mathias in Sparland after weeks of illness. Survived by daughters Mrs Ed Moore of Chicago and Mrs Mathias of Sparland, and son F H Gehr of Sparland. Burglars Enter Dewey Office but Fail to Get Loot
