Burglars forced a rear door of J Watercott & Co. during the night Monday and rifled two cash registers, stealing about 100 dollars in coins and bills. Boots may have been taken. sheriff deputy Joe Ryan and a Washington Illinois fingerprint team investigated.
Jones and Laughlin Steel Co and Alexander Construction Co join to develop a 62 acre mobile home park north of Granville. The plan aims for orderly growth and avoids disrupting village development, with Putnam County Zoning Board of Appeals hearing Ferdinand Er and Alexander Construction’s petition to rezone from agricultural to residential.

Emma Smart leads a health testing program for Putnam and Mar 1 counties focusing on elementary grades in Gran d and nearby districts. Mothers assist as testing at Mag Vaney school near Mc b and St Marys parochial school occurs with a March date set for further testing in the To cols.
The Marshall Putnam 4 H leaders were honored at a Saturday banquet in Henry attended by over 125 people. Walter Boyle presided as Howard Johnson welcomed guests and Robert Hahn spoke for 24 years of leadership. Art Holst delivered the keynote comparing football to leadership.
The Varna based Russellm Crew as second deputy to Sheriff Moe Berg will earn 5500 annually. The board approved a bid award to Goodwin Brothers of Venona for two 1967 Ford sedans at 3299.94 each plus trade ins, for delivery in about three weeks with police insignia and equipment.
Five teams compete in the Tri County Basketball Tournament January 23 to 27 with preliminaries at Henry on January 23 to 25 and semifinals at Venona January 26 followed by finals at Wenona. Officials are Nick Gineris and Jean Des Marteau of Kankakee.
The Marshall County Sportsmen's Club schedules the third fox hunt for Sunday January 22. Meet two miles west of the Varna Four Corners tavern at 1 PM. Last week’s hunt drew a good turnout with one fox shot and several others sighted.
Carl T Hunsicker of the 40th District will serve on three committees in the new 75th General Assembly. He is appointed to Agriculture Chairman Elections and Public Utilities Railroads and Aviation. Committee hearings shift to mornings 8 30 to 12 30 with the House convening at 1 00 p.m. daily.
Sparland High School invites alumni friends and the public to the 1967 Homecoming on Friday January 20. The Sparland Hilltoppers meet Mid-County Bulldogs with JV at 6 30 p.m. and varsity at 8 p.m. A dance and the crowning of the 1967 king and queen follow.
Jes Monier, Steuben Township supervisor, announces the appointment of Eugene Mannock of Sparland as the new township assessor. Mannock replaces Wilford DeWalt who resigned weeks earlier citing lack of time to handle the job.
A five year old Henry Wright sustained a broken arm and facial bruises after being struck by a car at the Edward and Third street intersection in Henry about 2 p.m. He was with his grandmother Mrs. Clarence Wright when he crossed in front of a car driven by Mrs. Robert Schlosser of Lacon. He received treatment from Dr. A. F. Tochalauski and was later moved to St. Margarets hospital in Spring Valley by ambulance and returned home Saturday.
Three Henry teenagers injured in a one car crash Friday about 7 p m Janet Baumgartner 17 in fair condition at St Margaret s Hospital Spring Valley suffered a broken pelvis and broken hip while driver Harlan Grant 18 had minor injuries and was treated and released Peter Perona 19 another passenger also treated. Grant was driving northeast on Railroad avenue trying to turn onto Western avenue when the car skidded into a tree. Marshall County Chief Deputy Sheriff Joseph Ryan and Henry Chief of Police Ralph Child investigated.
Henry Senachwine Consolidated High School board accepted the resignations of English teacher Mrs. Cynthia Gries and music instructor Mr. Edward Fay. Sid Messamore to replace Gries. election set for April 8 1967 with filing windows February 22 to March 18. Board member Harold Merdtan recovering from surgery in Rochester Minnesota.
Dr. J. L. Montooth of Bradford celebrated his 95th birthday on Wednesday in January. He is believed to be Illinois's oldest licensed driver and still drives his car daily.
A fire at 6 p.m. last Wednesday at the Jones and Laughlin Steel Co plant construction site destroyed wooden cribbing forms a tarpaulin and a 100 pound gas cylinder. Fire Chief Marion Kuhne said a salamander torch used by workers ignited the tarpaulin and the fire spread to the wooden forms and cylinder.
Quick response by Henry and Saratoga fire crews prevented heavy damage at the Wilbur Doyle tenant house in Saratoga township early last night. The blaze was caused by an overheated coal furnace in cold temperatures. Damage estimated at about $100.
The Henry Council of Churches begins a week of Prayer for Unity with 8:40 to 9:00 a m services. First meeting at First Christian Church led by Rev. Jerry Elmore and meditation by Rev. Marshall Simpson. Subsequent venues include Methodist Presbyterian and Christian Churches. Host pastor acts as liturgist. Come as you are.

Elmer White of Interstate Producers Livestock Association told more than 300 farmers at the Marshall Putnam Farm Bureau banquet that a livestock market will return to Peoria if feasible. He outlined IPLA leadership in new marketing methods including contract selling of livestock and cited hog sales with Krey of St. Louis. He noted IPLA’s Chicago Market Foundation aims to inform farmers about the Chicago terminal market.
The Marshall Putnam Homemakers crown the Queen of Hearts at 1 30 p m February 7 in the Farm Bureau building Henry. They will host a Valentine tea for new members with Valentines on display. Fran Johnson of Comstock theater Peoria will entertain with songs and narrations from plays and recent movies.
Illinois Valley Community College board announces the purchase of 310 acres near LaSalle across the Illinois River for 961000 dollars about 3100 dollars per acre. The land comes from Walter Duncan Leonard Trevero with an 83 acre Alger option.
Henry Senachwine High School announces new substitute English teacher Mrs. William Miller will fill the vacancy created by Mrs. Lewis Gries resignation until February 1. Principal Frank E Adams states the temporary position ends when Mrs. Sid Mesamor of Normal joins as English and business instructor on February 1.
