The Christian church Missionary Society met January 12 with Mrs W E Cook. Large attendance and an informative program followed led by president Mrs C A Phillip. Mrs Stickel opened with prayer and the group conducted devotional studies on Our Island Missions and Porto Rico democracy.

Putnam Camp M W A, 2107 installs newly elected officers with Rev Whitter as installing officer. An oyster supper followed, Harold Wood entertained with radio programs from multiple cities. A fourteen man drill team was formed with Raymond Keegan elected Chief Forester. A talk on Wood craft is planned for January 21 at the Community church.

Woman Driver Crashes After Turning Into Alley
Four o clock Friday afternoon Mrs. Charles Snyder driving with her mother Mrs. Barker failed to notice a following car on Thomas street and swerved into an alley. George Riggs, driver of Clyde Worley's car, avoided a collision by turning into a tree causing severe damage to Worley's car but light damage to Mrs Snyder's vehicle. Mrs Snyder and Mrs Barker escaped uninjured while Riggs sustained minor bruises.

Evans Township Corn Show Demonstration At Farm Bureau Meeting
Evans Township staged a corn show with twenty seed samples and a demonstration at the Evans town hall last Monday. About 150 attendees heard talks on detecting corn rot and home canning of meats. Mr Schureman of the Lacon Home Journal outlined the benefits of farm organization and orders for limestone were taken for use in demonstrations to show material improvements.

Vernon Bishop died following surgery at La Salle hospital last Thursday night. The funeral was held at Mt Palatine at his grandparents home with the American Legion from Magnolia in charge. He leaves his father sister two brothers and grandparents. his mother had died eighteen years earlier.

Poisoned by canned tomatoes sickens Bell child
Bertha Bell, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abram Bell, fell ill Monday after eating canned tomatoes at supper. Her mother also ate the same food but recovered. Bertha remains seriously ill and in critical condition after a week.

Fire at La Rose houses sparks from chimney start blaze
About 11 o clock Friday forenoon the roof of C. K. Schumacher's town residence caught fire from chimney sparks. Firefighters quickly extinguished the shingles roof in about half an hour with no wind. This is the village's fourth January fire, previous blazes destroying three large homes.

Mrs Flora Worley Blackmon of Peoria died at the family residence on Friday morning. She was active in Christian Science churches in Peoria and remembered for gentleness and charity. She is survived by her husband, daughter Margery, two sisters, two brothers, and her aged mother. Funeral services were held in Peoria and interment followed in Henry cemetery.

Death of Mary Amanda Riley in Greenville Texas
Mary Amanda Riley died at her cousin's home in Greenville Texas on Saturday January 13 at age 75 from heart trouble. After a brief illness and earnest prayers, she passed peacefully on January 14 in the belief of eternal life. Born December 6 1844 in Mary Amanda Crisbee later married John Riley a respected citizen. Continues on page 6 column 2.
