The Union school three miles west of Magnolia was totally destroyed by fire Wednesday between 9 and 10 o clock. The blaze origin is unknown. Nearby farmers discovered smoke from the belfry and summoned aid, but efforts to fight the fire failed as everything was destroyed.

Last Rites for Walter Cook Held in Henry
Funeral services for Walter Cook were held Friday at his Main Street home. Walter E Cook born February 22 1895 in Putnam Illinois married Hazel Winship in 1916. He worked eight years for the Duke- Shearing firm later W B Duke Henry. He died Tuesday morning and burial was in Putnam cemetery. The private service drew many friends as pallbearers from local firms.

Indictments Handed Down by Marshall Grand Jury
Three indictments were returned Tuesday by the Marshall County grand jury convened for the January term in Lacon with Judge John M Niehaus presiding. Indictments include withholding funds and embezzlement against former county treasurer Charles E Anderson and rape against Clyde Travers. Trial calendar opens January 28 with embezzlement case first, followed by Merritt v Merritt in chancery and Clark v Waughop in law. Several court orders dockets feature cases stricken with leave to reinstate and a $4,805.60 judgment against the city of Toluca.
