After the session Mrs. Willett was invited to the White House for a personal conference with the President. The photo shows elaborate preparations for Eisenhower's second inauguration before the Capitol.
Readings show severe cold with temperatures near 20 below and 22 below in Bradford area. Justice Allen Tuttle notes 7 am measurements across counties with reports of snow totaling up to ten inches and unusual deep freezes, extending to Henry-Senachwine and nearby towns.
The La Prairie Mutual Fire Insurance Company will hold its annual meeting on January 22, 1957, in La Prairie. The firm reports a successful year with substantial gains in insured force. Officers Turnbull president, Frank Wilson secretary, A. Monler treasurer, and directors including R. N Turnbull Charles Lester Leigh Theodore Francis Read Leland Mollis Shearer William Gil Chitt.
Henry community mounts aid effort for Hungarian refugees after the Budapest uprising. Rev Ray Schultz leads the drive to collect clothing and bedding, with American Legion Henry post 323 sponsoring and M. D Tutt chairing. Central drop room at Henry Hotel building opens January 18 to 25 daily, with shipments funded by donations and postage gifts to Leonard Ries, Henry postmaster.
The annual banquet for live stockmen sponsored by the Marshall Putnam Farm Bureau will be held tomorrow in Henry. A pre program banquet will be served at local churches before a special program in the Henry Senachwine high school's auditorium. Moreland Martin of Chicago, a national meat expert with the National Livestock and Meat Board, will present an outdoor meat cooking demonstration using a smoked ham, a square cut lamb shoulder, a lamb leg, and a beef hindquarter to show modern meat cutting for homemakers. Ralph Wier chairs the Farm Bureau Marketing committee which oversees the program.
The public is invited to a card party hosted by St Josephs Church Men's Club at the Farm Bureau building Tuesday evening January 22. Pinochle 500 and euchre will be played and lunch is included in the admission. Plans were finalized at a club meeting last week.
Evelyn Louis of Putnam is chosen by Henry-Senachwine High School classmates and faculty as the senior girl most worthy of the 1957 Good Citizenship Award. Full story and photo will run next week in the Henry News-Republican. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Otto Louis.
The Henry American Legion Auxiliary announces its annual chili supper to raise funds. On Saturday January 19 the event runs from 5 p.m. at the Farm Bureau community rooms with chili crackers pie and coffee served. All are invited to attend and support this project.

Thurle Swain of McNabb was elected chairman of the Putnam County Republican Central committee succeeding Fritz Ballerine who resigned to become Granville postmaster. Swain has served as chairman since Dec 1 1956 with Joe Toscanil as secretary treasurer and other committeemen named. A Friday meeting at the Hennepin courthouse will fill the vacant Glanville township seat and select delegates for the March 18 Peoria judicial convention. A new highway maintenance truck stationed at Hennepin since Dec 26 is aiding snow plowing on the Lacon to Hennepin blacktop. Willard Spratt and Adolph Happold are crew members.
Albert W. Barth told the News-Republican he will not run for mayor of Henry this spring. He cited current duties as president of the board of education, a director at the Henry Building and Loan Association, and other community activities as responsibilities he cannot leave.
The National Farm Loan association held its annual dinner meeting at the Masonic Temple in Ottawa with 132 attendees. William Smith of Rushville and H G Whalen of St Louis spoke on federation and land bank topics. Directors Elmer McCormick and Elmer Cain were reelected, Wilbur Sutherland named to fill a vacancy, and holdovers Earl Anderson and Clarence Held were noted.
Saratoga township west of Henry approved a $50,000 bond issue to fund blacktop paving on two roads totaling six miles, with 115 votes for and 3 against plus one spoiled ballot. Funds from future fuel tax and current bond retirement keep taxes steady as the program aims to complete full blacktop in six to seven years, led by Camp Grove State Bank. Other townships in Marshall and Putnam counties are weighing similar plans.
Two Wichita men James Russell Crisler 23 and Gale Harvey Reneau 20 are jailed in Marshall county for Henry burglaries and an attempted entry at Duke Bros. Store. They fled Kansas with stolen plates, are held on $3000 bonds, and linked to recent local burglaries per Sheriff Evans and State's Attorney Pace.
Sparland community unit school plans to seek extra funding for education. LaPrairie Men's club hosts meeting January 21 with Sparland board members R. H. Monier and E. Jones presenting. A special election set for February 2 will ask voters to approve a 28 cent tax rate increase per $100 assessed valuation.

Funeral services for Daniel H Morgan a longtime Putnam area farmer were held at Green Funeral Home with Rev Orville Masemore officiating. Masonic rites were given by Henry Lodge No 119. Interment was in Putnam cemetery. Survived by wife Nancy Hull Morgan three sons Donald Howard and Daniel Ellis two daughters Lola Lane and Elizabeth Morgan a sister Inez Singer a granddaughter Kathryn Meek and many friends.
Henry Presbyterian church held its annual congregational meeting after an all church supper. Reports cited progress in Sunday School Union Youth Fellowship and Women’s Guild with officers elected including Elders Wayland Downey Elmer Knapp and Richard Finfgeld. The year 1956 saw increased benevolent giving and a rotation system for elder and trustee elections adopted by the general assembly.
Dean McAllister of Lacon, son of Ben H McAllister of Henry, named salesman of the year by W. E. Anderson Company of Owensboro, Kentucky. He won over nine other salesmen and received a gold watch, an extra week’s vacation, and a cash bonus after three and a half years with the firm in the milwork construction industry.
