Fatal Shaft Failure Kills Student in Varna High School
Marvin Peterson, a student at Varna High School and member of the class of 1940, died after a belt on a machinery saw snapped while he worked in a sidewall area near Fifth Avenue. The accident occurred Saturday around noon during a part time job placement program at Augustine College. The report notes the incident happened while Peterson was on a shelving task and was instantly fatal. Authorities are investigating.
