The Henry community gathered for a memorial Mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Laurence Yumacher honoring Staff Sgt. Elgin Henry who died during World War II. Burial followed at Henry City Cemetery with American Legion posts and veterans paying respects. survivors include wife Edna Harney Henry and sons and daughters. He served in the 452nd Bomb Group and earned the Air Medal and Oak Leaf Clusters posthumously.

Henry State Bank holds annual meeting and doubles capital
The Henry State Bank stockholders met on Wednesday evening January 12 with full representation. They adopted a resolution to increase capital from 25000 to 50000 via a 100 percent stock dividend. Granville Fire Station Damaged by Blaze
A fire at the Granville fire station Tuesday afternoon caused several hundred dollars in damage to the fire truck and equipment. Ralph Martin, water superintendent, spotted smoke and alerted firefighters who moved the truck out and used a chemical tank. An overheated stove is suspected as the cause.

Mrs. Cannah Jones Dies In Philadelphia
Cannah Jones, born Hattie May Riley in Henry in 1870, led a local business dynasty with Pool and Jones and later Cannah Jones firms. A noted elocutionist, she moved from Henry to Sullivan then Vincennes and finally Philadelphia, where she died January 10. Her remains rest with her husband Danna Jones and son Joseph H. Jones in Fernwood Cemetery, Philadelphia.

Doctor Ryder Suffers Shoulder Fracture After Street Fall
Dr. Bruce I. Ryder slipped on an icy Peoria street in front of the John Burton residence Monday morning and fractured his left shoulder. The fracture was reduced at Methodist Hospital on Tuesday. he returned home Wednesday and is able to see patients in his office.

County Superintendent Aids Meetings on School Reorganization
County Superintendent Swan son offered to help communities hold informational meetings on reorganization including a Varna session that featured a film titled The School house in the Red from the State department of education.
