Funeral services were held for Mrs Nellie Otto of Peoria formerly of Hennepin and Magnolia who died of pneumonia after a stroke. Burial followed in Magnolia and survivors include a brother, sister, two nieces and a stepson. The service featured music and remarks by Rev Fernandez and Rev Loveless.

He disappeared December 15 when he dived into Salt Springs Fla and was carried by a strong current into an unknown cavern shielded by a rock ledge. Six Greek sponge divers are in the search.

Fire destroys Ben Hunt home in Whitefield Township
A Saturday noon blaze destroyed the frame residence of Mr and Mrs Ben Hunt in Whitefield Township south of Henry. The fire, likely from a chimney spark, gutted the roof near the furnace and caused an estimated loss of 4000 dollars or more with limited insurance. The couple, aided by neighbors, saved downstairs contents. upstairs and basement were largely lost. The family plans a new home on the same site as weather permits.

Edward Rogers Named Rural Carrier In Sparland Route
Edward Rogers was named to a rural mail carrier post on Route 1 out of Sparland after a January 6 notice from the second assistant postmaster general in Washington. He began duties January 10 after ranking high on a Civil Service exam in Lacon on September 11. Rogers is a Sparland High School graduate and worked at the Sparland telephone company. his mother Frances Rogers is a local telephone operator. In local news, Mr and Mrs Lester Garman hosted Mr and Mrs Charles Rosner for a waffle and bridge evening.

Betty French of Putnam won the district skilled drivers contest in the 16th Congressional district held in Henry County. Contestants from Peoria and Bureau counties also entered.
