The Retail Committee of the Henry Chamber announces a slogan contest with total prizes of 100 dollars for the best lines completing a 25 word sentence. Awards of 30, 25, 15, and 10 dollars will be given to top five entrants. Entries must be mailed by March 8, 1961.
Don McWard chaired the program with Jon Ellis outlining 4-H youth work in Marshall and Putnam counties. Ellis noted 14 agricultural clubs with 280 members, plus home clubs, and described new city friendly 4-H projects and the International Farm Youth Exchange effort.
Ward Malisch, University of Illinois senior civil engineering student, graduates in June and holds Chi Epsilon membership with Tau Beta Pi and Sigma Tau honors. He joined Tau Beta Pi on Dec 8 1960 and Sigma Tau on Jan 5 1961. He works on asphalt fatigue research under a National Science Foundation grant.
A Republican caucus for Henry township will be held at 7 30 p m Tuesday February 7 in Henry city hall to nominate candidates for supervisor township clerk and assessor on the April township ballot Roy Miller Paul Mattern and Frank Carr current officials in their Republican terms are up for election.
W. J Bingaman of LaSalle district representative for Blue Cross and Blue Shield met with Henry Chamber of Commerce at the municipal building to discuss organizing a hospital and medical coverage plan on a group basis for members and business associates. He was authorized to survey member interest through personal contacts.
The week's Rotary program will feature a representative from the Egyptian Music Camp at DuQuolin Tl. The event highlights cultural exchange and educational outreach within the club.
George Ziegler Democratic Committeeman of Precinct 1 Henry and secretary of the Marshall County Democratic committee received a belated Christmas greeting yesterday from Governor Stratton at the governor’s mansion in Hinsdale. The card postmarked Jan 10 marks the final day Stratton held office before Otto Kerner's succession.
Henry city election faces no declared candidates for mayor, city clerk, treasurer, or aldermen. council weighs raising salaries to attract qualified entrants while aging pay policies may push terms to new council. Independent inquiry hints at potential candidacy for alderman but no firm entries yet.
Ernest Rose of Henry received a plaque at a testimonial dinner in Princeton for outstanding service in soil conservation. The event honored his 25 years with the Soil Conservation Service, including prior work in the Marshall Putnam district before moving to Bureau county. He also serves as secretary for Henry grade school board and the Henry Chamber of Commerce.
The City of Henry authorized a contract with Henry Motor Co for a Ford police car with heavy duty equipment and leather seats. Bids from Klein Motor Co offered a Dodge with a higher trade difference, and the city will trade in its 1959 Plymouth police car with over 50,000 miles.
Funeral services for Frank Kennedy 78 a former area resident who died January 5 1961 at a Peoria nursing home were held January 9 at St Patrick s church Lincoln with Rev Dr Monaghan officiating. Burial was at Holy Cross cemetery Lincoln. Surviving are five daughters 17 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren two brothers and numerous nieces and nephews. The Kennedy family expresses thanks for Masses flowers and sympathy.
Paul Tondi age 38 died Thursday at St. Margaret's hospital from complications of injuries from a May 26 1940 single car crash on Route 89 near McNabb. Survived by Gildo Tondi, two sisters Irma Byczynski and June Pambianco, and Reno Tondi. Funeral at Sacred Heart Granville.
Charles Meihsner signed a contract to become a full time agent for the L A A Insurance service in Marshall and Putnam counties. He will serve Senachwine Hopewell and south Magnolia while his wife runs Meihsner Book Store on Edward Street.
Mrs John Wherry 77 a lifelong Putnam resident died suddenly at her home Wednesday. Funeral at 2 pm Friday at Putnam Christian church with James Avery officiating. Burial in Putnam cemetery. Visitation Thursday at Boose funeral home 3:00–5:00 and 7:00–9:00. Memorials suggested to heart fund. Survived by husband John E Wherry two daughters Zelda Daniels and Elsie four grandchildren Ralph Eldon Wayne and Marcia Daniels. Preceded by parents five Wheeler siblings. She was a longtime Putnam Christian church member.

Dr Dan Morse former Peoria sanitarium superintendent and expert on Ninots Valley history will speak at the Marshall County Historical Society banquet in Lacon. The January 16 event at the First Congregational church features a roast beef dinner, illustrated talk on the Hopewellian Indians at Steuben, and installation of 1961 officers.
Henry grade school board meets to interview a candidate to fill the resignation of Mea Alta Durham, eighth grade teacher, effective end of the first semester. The Citizens' Advisory Council and committees plan to review future building and educational needs.
Charles E Hughes of Armour's Livestock Bureau will speak at the annual Marshall Putnam stockmen's banquet held at Henry Senachwine High School on Thursday night January 19. A ham dinner at the Farm Bureau building and churches precedes the address. the event is sponsored by the Farm Bureau livestock marketing committee. Hughes, born in Indiana, studied at Purdue, taught agriculture, and held editorial roles before joining Armour in 1951. Mrs Bernice Roth visited the Frank Roth Jr. family in New Windsor Friday night through Sunday.
