Derry, manager for the M P Farm Bureau, smiles as the organization announces it reached its 1951 membership goal in the close of the year. The unit reports about 28 percent of the 7 000 local family units enrolled, making it the region’s largest group with under one percent delinquent as of Nov 30 1951.
A 14 year old, Lester Salz, son of Arnold Salz, was accidentally shot and killed during a rabbit hunting expedition near Lostant in LaSalle county. The gun discharged as the pair cornered a rabbit in a field owned by William Schultz. Lester died in his father's arms moments after. He had been an eighth grade pupil at SS Peter and Paul school in Lostant. Funeral services were held at SS Peter and Paul church in Lostant.

Duke welcomed attendees and praised patronage as Reggie Cross emceed with acts by Gene Colin Pamela and Louise and Roberta Ryan. The program closed with two films Twine from the World and Abbott and Costello in High Flyers.
The December monthly dairy report by John Westerlund shows 421 cows tested with 119 dry, mirroring November. Winter dry periods and spring freshening are noted as excessive, butterfat prices rising up to 20 percent, and producers focusing milk on the surplus season. Top high producing herds include Harold Mills & Son and Gilbert McBride among others.
Mrs Gregory dies in Ft. Collins Colorado after a stroke. She was 72 and the youngest child of Mr and Mrs James Quinn pioneer residents. Survived by brother Edmund Quinn as the only other family member. Obituary to appear next week in Henry News Republican.
The Henry Schachwine PTA holds a January meeting in the high school auditorium. Mrs Ed Wiedman selects the film Friendship Begins at Home for entertainment and discussion. Mrs Ivan Kaiser schedules musical treats and second grade mothers provide refreshments after the gathering. PTA president Mrs Forney praises cooperation and urges attendance. Publicity chair O Pild notes plans to attend.
The 1952 Marshall county March of Dimes kicked off January 2 aiming to repay a $5 million 1951 debt and fund polio research. Campaign extends through January with chairmen listed in Wenona, Toluca, LaRose, Lacon, Henry, Camp Grove, Sparland, and Wenona.
Fred J. Kurrle, owner of a clothing and dry goods store, was elected president of the Lacon Business Men's association at the annual Riverview Inn meeting. He will push to complete the association credit rating system and expand the data pool for member credit extension. Harold Kiet is named vice president, W. A. Nelson treasurer, and Maxine Hamilton secretary.
Funeral services will be held at Brennan funeral home at 2 p.m. Friday for Ray Hume who died Tuesday evening at St. Margarets hospital in Spring Valley after a stint as a patient since Thursday. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday. He is survived by his wife Catherine Heneberry. He was prominent in business circles in Peoria and Chicago before retirement and later lived in Henry.
Rev and Mrs Wilbur F Powell of East Peoria Methodist plan an illustrated talk Monday at Henry Methodist on their Pan American travels through Central and South America. The free program includes kodachrome films and a reception with light lunch after the lecture.
The government reduces white potato prices paid to farmers by six to ten percent. The new order takes effect January 19, with potential effects on retail potato prices to be observed.

Pfc. Raymond Yare, 19, son of Mr and Mrs Al Yare Wenona, was found dead near Granville about 4 am New Year’s Day from a gunshot wound. He had just returned from Treasure Island on furlough. The gun was identified as his by his uncle George Englehaupt. Funeral services held at Wenona with Rev Dee Walburn in charge and military rites by the Wenona post American Legion at Granville cemetery. Pallbearers named.
C B Sweet of Chicago outlined provisions of a 1952 state law allowing townships in Marshall Putnam counties to share in a $7.5 million annual motor fuel tax fund for road programs. Townships must draft long range plans prioritizing mail routes and school buses and coordinate with county highway officials to qualify and prevent fund misuse.
