Steam Engine Sets Spur of Speed Record Between Sparland and Henry
The Rock Island railroad’s Peoria Rocket steam locomotive, substituting after a Diesel failure, covered seven miles between Sparland and Henry in under five minutes. The run, made Thursday night with an old engine, demonstrated surprising speed on the division as observers watched the locomotive regain bragging rights.

Car Crash In Henry Injures Four Youths After Show
Four Henry youths including Francis Thirkell Clifford Lopeman and Raymond Burke were passenger occupants when their friend Alden Rickey drove their Model A Ford home from a theatre outing. The car ran off Route 29 near Sparland striking a tree after the occupants fell asleep. Thirkell suffered a slight skull fracture and was hospitalized. others were shaken but not seriously injured. Edwin Rickey retrieved the group and left the car at Henry Hospital area until Saturday.

Elmer M. Brown a former Henry attorney later at Lacon filed for parole with the Wilneis Parole Board from Joliet State Penitentiary where he is jailed for forging client securities.
