The Marshall county Democratic organization announces its slate for county offices. Potential county treasurer candidates include Lant of Varna and Ray Hwartz. Roth of Lacon is named for county clerk. if he declines Toluca may supply a candidate. The party backs State Rep. James Non of Saunemin for re election and supports Her Durley as State's Attorney. Boyle of Hennepin is a candidate for Congress in the kh district with county backing.

Appointments in County Report on Local Drifts
Fred A. Ford of Henry Marshall county chairman of the Democratic party announced several appointments received in the past few days. Charles Morgan of Henry has an appointment to a position in the Reformatorys. Paul Matlin to Henry received appointment as radio chairman and will serve in a special department at Springfield. He will attend a school of instruction then engage in field service and repair work for a federal agency. Both men will reside in Henry. A young man has been sent to attend a state police school at Springfield to qualify for appointment as a member of the state police force. The Marshall county Democratic committee chairmen have a voice in the selection of census enumerators for the 1950 federal census. A census supervisor will be named and census takers named by local committees and the county chairman. It is understood the district census supervisor will be named from LaSalle county.

Christmas Eve Drive-In Concert At Boose House

Funeral services were held at St Marys church in Henry for Elizabeth Mattern born November 13 1921 near Sparland died December 31 in a hospital after childbirth. She is survived by her husband and siblings. Interment was in Calvary cemetery with pallbearers named.

Morris Dunne postmaster reports the Lacon office handled its largest Christmas mailing year with a peak weekly volume around 76 000 pieces. Cards drove the increase while parcel post stayed small. James Coleman longtime CCC camp superintendent in Henry died Thanksgiving morning in Fresno California due to a blood clot. He had been gassed in World War I and recent months prevented from working. He leaves his wife of 27 years and son Bill in Hood Texas.

Corn Acreage Cut Planned Under Agriculture Program
The Department of Agriculture announced a 19.7 percent reduction in corn plantings for the coming year across major producing counties including Marshall and Pelham. Farmers may accept or ignore allotments. price supports stay at 90 percent of parity if quotas are followed. Acreage for commercial areas drops from 57.6 million to 46.2 million acres, aiming for about 2.627 billion bushels.
