Bradford Farmer Dies in Auto Crash Saturday
Eugene Hewitt 67, of Bradford, died when his car left the road while en route from his farm. An inquiry was led by Stark county coroner John R. Dunlap. He was born April 3, 1894, married Mary E. Forbes in 1915, and is survived by two daughters Shirley Hoffman and Peggy Gilter, a brother Monroe Hewitt, a sister, and nine grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Dunlap Funeral Home with burial at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

Blands Sill Hospital Patients From Auto Accident
The latest word on the Christmas night auto crash near Morton reports Mr and Mrs H Bland recovering slowly at Hopedale Hospital. Mrs Bland underwent surgery for a broken upper right arm and will stay at least another week, while Mr Bland receives back therapy. Martha Stewart, a nurse daughter, stayed with them during surgery. Family and friends sent many letters and messages.

Ralph Wier Named President of Marshall County Historical Society
Hopewell farmer Ralph Wier was elected president by the Marshall County Historical Society board and will take office at the Jan. 20 annual dinner meeting at the Lacon Methodist church. Vice-presidents and a new treasurer were named, and directors approved a three year slate. The meeting reviewed finances including a memorial fund started in 1858 and a January membership drive with dues and life memberships detailed.

No Provision for Paving In 1962 On Route 29
The 1962 Illinois highway program includes a $65,000 bridge project on Route 29 north of Putnam, marking the first step to rebuild Route 29 from Putnam to Bureau Junction. No new paving is funded this year. funds target right‑of‑way purchases and a few large projects in Marshall and LaSalle counties, with total district allocations around $75,000 in Peoria district and funds for Route 51, Route 6, Route 71, and related grade separations and resurfacing across Marshall, LaSalle, Bureau, Putnam, and Wenona areas.
