LaRose Couple Killed in New Year Crossing Crash
Arthur Schumacher a 49 year old Bell Plain Township farmer and his wife Hannah Steffins of Toluca were killed when their car was struck by a Santa Fe passenger train at a grade crossing east of La Rose. Mrs Schumacher died later at St Mary's Hospital Streator the same day. a joint inquest returned an accidental death verdict. The Schumachers were longtime LaRose residents with three children and were en route to church when the collision occurred.
