Residents awoke January 1 1929 to find a heavy snow blanket over Henry City. The storm began with a mist Monday evening and escalated to two plus inches by midnight with more by morning. Motorists faced slick streets but no accidents were reported. Thermometer plunged to 7 degrees below zero, then rose to around 20.
Veteran Col Edward Bonham Dies After 18 Mile Walk
Beulah McAllister reports the death of her uncle Col Edward Bonham in Hartford on December 31 1928. A Civil War officer and Minnehaha County pioneer, he was 88 and died from exposure after walking 18 miles from Sioux Falls to Hartford. He was found unconscious on a highway a mile from town after attending his sister Eliza Reynolds funeral on December 29.

Benjamin Wright, brother of Eli Wright and Mrs. John Kraus of this city, died after a several days illness from the flu. He leaves a wife, two children, four sisters and one brother. The bride, a Sparland high school junior, wore a brown flat crepe dress and will reside with her grandmother Mrs. Walter Pride. Powell, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Powell, is a Sparland High School graduate and works at the Hy-Tex brickyard. The couple are staying with Powell's sister Mrs. Horatio Campbell.
