Funeral services were held Sunday for Mrs. Ila M Speers 68 long resident of Peoria County. She was born May 15 1862 the ninth child of John and Sarah Bil Speers. Survived by six brothers and several sisters she attended local country schools and Monmouth College. The service occurred at Lawn Cemetery near Speer with numerous relatives in attendance. Benson chaired the December 30 Varna Rotary Club session with guest Walter Plattner Peoria revealing core salesmanship ideas. Plattner noted success hinges on being a salesman of self or product, while Terry sock and others attended, and future speaker Iftner of the I A A will discuss grain marketing for Prairie Grain Company.

Born May 19 1890 in Walworth County Wis he worked as pipe fitter at DePue zinc plant and formerly with Henry Opera House and Overland garage. Survived by widow Aleda Dorff two children from Peru a sister and brothers. services at DePue Canal Church conducted by Rev Jones with burial in Henry City Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Jones Funeral Home.

Kroger Company officials announced a new Henry Kroger Super Market will open Tuesday January 13. The Henry store, largest for the chain in a community of this size, includes meat dairy produce frozen foods health and beauty departments and a 40 by 120 foot building with refrigerated equipment.
Herbert B. Hofer 47 died at home Tuesday morning from natural causes. An inquest at Brennan Funeral Home Wednesday found the death natural. coroner's jury listed Ned Potter as foreman and included William Miller James Moore Paul Snow John D Barnes and Gordon Ries. He was a Henry community lifelong resident, survived by two sisters Mrs Mildred Schlosser and Mrs John Ries and a brother Alden Hofer of Peoria. The Illinois Republican State Central Committee on Monday in Springfield endorsed a full slate for the April 13 1948 primary. Heading the ticket are C Wayland Brooks for United States Senate and Dwain G E for Governor with Lt Governor Richard Yates Rowe State Treasurer William Stratton Secretary of State George Barrett Attorney General Arthur C Lueder and State Auditor George Lueder. County committees nationwide backed the slate as leading to Republican victory in the fall.

Postmasters nationwide announce that free first class postage for soldiers sailors and marines ends midnight November 31 1947. Mail deposited after that date will require postage.
