A house near Milabb in Suthernland was razed by fire Monday afternoon with only household goods saved. The blaze, likely from a chimney spark, had no nearby fire equipment to fight it. Mrs Sutherland and daughter Ann were away at the time, the family recently moved to McNabb.

Navy Enlists Eugene Klein Local Youth in Anticipated Training
Eugene Klein son of Mr and Mrs Fred Klein of Offacon volunteered for the Navy on Monday December 22. He has worked at the Caterpillar Plant in East Peoria since March and enlisted as a machinist mate in the Navy Air Corps. He sails for Great Lakes Naval Training Station January 15 for twenty six weeks of training before assignment at sea. He will appreciate letters from home and will answer all he can.
