Fire destroys Varna home roof this morning
A defective flue caused a roof fire at Mrs. Rachael Skinner’s Varna residence at 9 15. Neighbors formed a bucket brigade and extinguishers stopped the blaze after discovery though most of the wood shingle roof burned away. An old chimney with mortar failure sparked the fire. heating stove connected to the chimney contributed. Loss estimated over a hundred dollars with water damage to furnishings. Varna lacks fire protection and a proper alarm system.

Albert Phillips Magnolia Dies Suddenly
Albert Phillips born near Varma March 28 1852 died February 12 1925 at Magnolia age 72 years 10 months 14 days. He married Elizabeth Allen October 11 1876 and lived near Magnolia before moving to Magnolia where he resided at death. Six children survive along with a lodge affiliation since 1887 and a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. E Eckstrand and burial was in Magnolia cemetery.

Farm Account School Held Tuesday in Marshall County
An all day Farm Account School was held Tuesday in the community room of the Henry National Bank. Twenty beginners attended from parts of the two counties learning how to keep farm accounts. The total number maintaining accounts exceeds fifty and more schools will be held later. Bankers from Marshall and Rawt nam counties cooperated. Prof J D Billsborrow of the University of Illinois led the session and closing records of the past year were reviewed for many old timers. Some facts seen on these records will be published later.

Vogelsang Dies After Long Illness in City
August Vogelsang died Monday at 4 25 pm after a long illness. He was born in New York City April 29 1851 and lived in this city since 1857 working as a tailor. Survived by one sister Kathryn Vogelsang Chicago and four brothers Andrew Mt Pulaski George Chicago Frank El Paso and Charles this city. Funeral services were held from the Smith Chapel with pallbearers named Lawrence Peterman Arthur Smith Marshall Downey and Andrew Vogelsang among others.

John Peterman Sr died early this morning at age 86 after months of diabetes pain. He was born July 12 1839 in Baara Germany and moved to New York in 1846 before settling in this city. Survived by his wife a brother and a sister, he united with St Marys church years ago. Funeral was set for Saturday at 9 from St Marys church with burial in St Marys cemetery.
