The War Department chief of engineers recommends Chicago receive 8500 cubic feet per second with a maximum 11,000 during a 25 year period, to support a new sewage treatment and water control project. Renewals allowed with gradual reductions to 4400 cfs on completion, while city water metering would be studied.
The diphtheria scare at Lacon is over with no quarantine now. Mayor Paul Grieves ordered schools churches and public gathering places closed for one week. the ban lifts Saturday. One death occurred Mrs Hattie Pettit died Sunday after a short illness once thought quinsy but later diagnosed as black diphtheria. Private burial followed Monday in Lacon.
Thieves forced entry to the Otto Gray farm home garage near the hard road, stripping a Ford touring car of its cushions tires headlights and tools and stealing four sets of harness from the adjoining barn. The theft occurred between 12 and 2 30 a m while the family was home. Tracks show intruders entered via a rear window and left by the field, with foot and tire marks and fingerprints as clues.
A wedding at St Patrick's Church Camp Grove joined Miss Ellen Reismeyer of Camp Grove to Anthony Louis Apple. Rev Father Walsh officiated with solos by McGinns sisters and a bridesmaid Anna Apple. The couple will reside on the McManus farm in Saratoga township.
Camp Grove High School has earned state accreditation and plans to compete in Marshall County events in April including declamatory, vocal, and instrumental contests. Ten students are entered in the Lincoln Essay contest for the Lincoln medal with a winner to be announced next week on Lincoln's birthday. The school also aims to resume grade contests and stage a future play.
About seventy neighbors gathered at Whitefield home of Mr and Mrs Wymer Schlosser Jr on February 4 for a farewell party. Guests danced and enjoyed lunch before the Schlosser family moves to Hopewell to reside on the old Mike Schmitt farm.
The marriage of Raymond McCullough of La Prairie and Miss Ruth Coffman of La Plata Missouri occurred January 28 at 6:30 PM, at the bride’s parents home. The bride is daughter of H Coffman of La Plata. the groom is son of Az and McCullough of La Prairie. They will live on the McCartney farm in La Prairie.
The stork visited the local hospital last evening February 11 and left a baby boy for Mr. and Mrs. Ben McAllister. The couple now has three daughters and two sons and both mother and babe are getting along fine.
The obituary notes Harry Hess Haines died Friday morning after weeks of illness. He moved from Easton, Pennsylvania, to this city in 1911 and married Laura V. Emerick in Chicago in 1918. Funeral services were held Monday at his residence with Rev. Father Cooper and Rev. James Turner officiating. Burial was in Guy cemetery. Relatives from Beverley Hills, Chicago, and Hammond, Indiana attended.
Henry High defeated Tiskilwa 20 to 15 Saturday night after a fast first half, then lost to Sparland Friday. Stout and Helper led Henry with key baskets while Tiskilwa surged in the second half before Henry held on.
Eleanor Monier marks her ninth birthday with a party at home from 4 to 6 pm on February 9 attended by forty eight friends. Guests enjoyed cake, pink and blue decorations, games, songs, and a group photo. Teachers Miss Bickerman, Miss Broaddus and Miss Niemman helped. out of town guests included Mrs. Lester Carroll and Mrs. Cecil Quinn.
Harry Gallup traveled to Chicago for the funeral of his brother in law George Mezger held Saturday. The burial occurred in a U P cemetery with a short service at the family lot. Attending were Gallup and Moore families from Henry Sparland Whitefields Pax ton and Chicago. The deceased wife Mamie Gallup was daughter of Mr and Mrs George Gallup of Henry.
The Farm Bureau reports winter wheat in Marshall and Putnam counties is in very good condition. Future yield hinges on weather through April 1, with alternating freezing and thawing risking plant damage.
The Leo Murphy farm sale held February 3 produced a total of $4884. The highest bid reached $300, with many items averaging about $26 each. Farm machinery also fetched stronger prices than expected. Murphy will stay on the farm while Lawrence Hoffman moves to the adjoining farm to tend the land.
A quiet January 26 ceremony at the Peoria courthouse joined Miss Agnes Ryan of Saratoga to Arol Elliott of Saratoga. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs Thomas Ryan, will manage the home while the groom assists his farmer father on the Saratoga farm.

Word of the death comes from Peoria of Howard Ashley Goddard a former local resident who died following a traffic collision while crossing a street in Peoria He had worked in the blacksmith trade here with Alex Doelzer and moved to Peoria about twenty years ago Funeral services were held in Peoria he leaves a wife and four children.
Bernard Vehooff a Hennepin blacksmith born from the old country showed a sudden mental break. He broke into the Methodist church and fled, was jailed, and after a Monday hearing with doctors Drs Hartman and Stuart he was sent to Watertown. Paired with $20.90 in cash and receipts found on him his brother Garrett from Ida Grove Iowa arrived after the arrest.
Illinois Commerce Commission will hold a public hearing in Granville High School at 10 00 a m on the Chicago and Alton request to abandon its 27 mile Toluca and Northern branch from Rutland to Granville Farmers and merchants along the line oppose the move aided by the Illinois Agricultural Association and Marshall Putnam Farm Bureau A special train from Toluca for farmers is arranged and Granville and Magnolia fear loss of rail service if the line is abandoned
The Washburn Greys won the district Independent championship after a tournament at Lacon high school. Results include Washburn 32 LaCon 25, La Prairie 83 Lacon 25, and La Prairie 28 Washburn 26. Contenders finished tied in wins, but Washburn is favored to claim the title.
Edwin Ziegler of Flint Michigan died in youth after a brief illness. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Lou Ziegler and brother to Donald. The family had moved to Flint from Peoria after living in Saratoga. The funeral was held in Flint with relatives Frank Ziegler Mrs Geo Ziegler Amelia Zierler and Mrs Michael Staab of Chillicothe attending from nearby.
Farm Bureau reports four Federal tuberculosis testers will visit Marshalls and Rutnam counties next week to assist Dr. Cook with bovine TB eradication. All who have not signed up should do so this week. testing is free and may become compulsory, with possible future payment for cattle testing.
